Howzit going, I don't really know the answer to my question and would like some insight on it. I am converting my pre-runner to 4wd and I have a donor 2000 Toyota 4-runner that I am going to be taking all of the parts off of to convert my truck over to 4wd, my truck is a 2004 Toyota Tacoma Pre-runner. My question at hand is, will the rear drive shaft off of the 4-runner fit on the tacoma transmission to rear axel? I know a lot of the parts are interchangeable but I don't know if the drive shafts are different from the 4-runner to tacomas, if someone has any insight on this it would be really much appreciated.

Pretty sure the driveshaft won't work, as the 4runners don't have a carrier bearing. They utilize a shorter 1-piece drivesahft because their wheelbase is shorter.

If the u joints and shaft are in good shape use ‘em. An added benefit is that the shop can customize the shaft length for truck lift. That way you will have the correct length of spline exposed.

If you need a new shaft, this was a recent post from a TW member who had a good experience with an aftermarket product.

I appreciate the offer but something that heavy would be too expensive and USPS is a death trap for items(they usually are stolen at any one of the delivery points; ask me how I know). And, I am not able to drive to you and get it.

FWIW, I've had Hundreds of packages mailed USPS in both directions and have never lost one in transit.
The odds of them getting stolen at your door are probably way better.
Never shipped a driveshaft though, is it a hot commodity? :)

You have been very fortunate. I have had golf clubs, putters and 5VZ-FE knuckles stolen when shipped USPS. I have been using UPS to almost guarantee delivery. A bit more expensive but I would rather have the peace of mind that I get my parts and items.
