    Hello all,
Super excited to join the community! Owning one of these trucks has been a dream of mine for a while, and I recently got lucky enough to find the exact model I was looking for. Clean CARFAX, 2 owners, long bed(a must for me), a little over 100k miles, and my favorite color of these trucks, Cavalry Blue. I flew out to SLC, purchased, and drove it back ~8 hours in the same day. It was an amazing ‘test drive’, I got a little bit of everything including a bit of rain and fog near the end of the drive. Took a few pics along the way that I will share here!

A few questions. I haven’t had a chance to try out all the features on the truck, but I was trying to utilize the cruise control with radar during my drive back. It worked great initially, slowing as the car in front of me did and back up to cruise as I passed. However, as I attempted to pass a semi and had one lane traffic coming the other way, I got an error message telling me to clean the sensor/radar wasn’t working after that until I turn off and start the truck again. Tried it again, it worked for a bit but same issue recurred. Is this a fairly common issue? I don’t plan on using the cruise radar too often since I will usually be driving around town but would like to utilize the side sensors/lane assist and they seem to be tied together. I think one of the owners may have replaced the front grille so after doing a bit of reading on this forum it looks like may be related.

Other than that, I am super excited about the new purchase! After driving it for nearly 9 hours I left the engine running and checked it out, it had a bit of a “ticking noise” I’m not used to. My previous trucks are a 2001 F-150, 2009 Silverado, 2019 Ram, and 2024 ram and I had never heard this before but apparently it is a characteristic of these trucks. My rams had their own issues trust me. Obviously will keep an eye on it, just wondered how many of you have experienced this. I did take a video I can post.

Anyway, stoked on the new purchase and excited to join the community!! Loving it so far.

Congratulations, awesome colour. Yes, the aftermarket grill and sensor may be off a little. My stock 2020 works perfectly. If I get the sensor covered with snow it will give me an error to clean it. These engines are noisy from the D-4S

Toyota D-4S is a fuel injection system that combines both port injection and direct injection in a single engine. It achieves this by using two sets of fuel injectors per cylinder: one for traditional port injection and another for direct injection. This dual system allows for greater efficiency and smoother operation during normal driving, while relying on direct injection for maximum power when needed.
Here's a more detailed look at how it works:
    • Port Injection:
Fuel is injected into the intake air flow upstream of the intake valves for each cylinder, operating at a relatively low pressure.
    • Direct Injection:
Fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber of each cylinder under high pressure.
    • D-4S Combination:
The D-4S system combines the benefits of both systems. It utilizes the port injection for fuel distribution during normal driving and the direct injection for more power and efficiency under load.
    • Self-Cleaning Feature:
Some Toyota D-4S engines, like the 2GR-FKS, have a self-cleaning feature that helps maintain injector cleanliness. This feature activates during hot idle, cleaning the injectors to prevent carbon buildup.
    • Benefits:
D-4S systems offer improved engine performance, fuel economy, and reduced emissions compared to traditional port injection systems.
In essence, Toyota's D-4S system is a way to leverage the strengths of both port and direct fuel injection to create a more efficient and powerful engine.

Just stay on top of all maintenance and enjoy your new ride.

Thank you for all of the information, very helpful. I know the previous owner did a lot of highway driving and the grille on there now has a few missing letters. I haven’t poked around as of yet to find the sensor but will probably look to replace it soon. Any recommendations you guys would have?, or any other fun upgrades you’d recommend? I plan on using it primarily for commute/work around town, but also do a ton of camping and fishing.
