The second number is the "weight" that the oil behaves like at operating temperature and pressure. The cold viscosity of those oils is the same.

Which also begs the question: do oil temps actually run much hotter in summer in these trucks, or is oil cooling sufficient to keep it similar?

Lots of variables that can affect the answer, but generally temps will be 5-20 degrees hotter.

Performed the first oil change after break-in at 1000 miles. Oil looked great.
A word of caution for those who have not purchased the Fumoto valves - warm/hot oil comes out FAST! And, acts like freakin water.

(Fumoto valve was purchased, immediately following the cleanup.)

I worry that they don’t actually change the oil.

Worry more that they drain the oil but don't replace. Had that happen on a Nissan AT THE DEALERSHIP!

I'd have done that too but my dealership will only do changes at the 10K mile intervals. That leaves me to do it myself at the 5k intervals.

But you'll trust them to change your oil and properly torque the drain plug after replacing the washer. I'm connecting the dots. :fingerscrossed:

Don't take this too seriously. :hattip:

I ordered a couple of the Wix filters you mentioned at the top of the post. The quality was terrible. Paint was already flaking off them. Who knows what already got into the media. Returned them. Interesting because I usually like Wix products.

I think the question with bigger filters has always been how well the bypass valve performs with the Tacoma engine. I don't know the answer to that. I have heard that the N1 filter, though small, is a quality filter. Most will change at 5000 miles anyway, so a larger filter is probably a non issue

Swapped mine out today at 2500 miles. Toyota specifies temperature ranges for this engine in Australia where you can use 0W20, 5W20, 5W30, and 10W30. How interesting. I wonder what I put in today???

The clickety clack of this engine is much quieter now. Used the OEM 90915-YZZN1 filter, which incidentally is spec'd for many different Toyota engines.

You don't know what oil you put in?
