    Morning guys,
Planning on tackling a drain and fill in my 2023 this weekend and have a really dumb question. Truck currently has 34K on the clock so how many drain and fills would you perform? Going forward I am thinking I will do it every 15K aka every 3rd oil change. Am I within the window for a single drain and fill or would you do more? Just trying to come up with a plan for the weekend.

At that mileage I'd just do 1 drain and fill, it'll be fine with your plan moving forward.

Do a single drain a refill.
There is no necessity to do frequently. Instead monitor tranny temps. If your driving yields temps above 200° On consistent basis, then switch to a frequent schedule

Thanks, everyone! Just wanted to ask as it gets hot here. Think 30+ days over 100F and I have seen 114F and I never want to again with the humidy we have here. That said I just want to get the truck on "my" schedule and go from there. 3 quarts every 15k seems like cheap insurance. Hopefully it's as easy as the videos make it out to be!

Just pick a number and go for. You will come to senses when you do the next drain.

Well, the drain and fill went off without a hitch! Well... One hitch. That heat shield is apprently made of recycled razor blades! Anywho... Did a drain and only got 1.9 quarts out so I filled it up, got the level correct, and took it for a drive. Much better! Did a second with a bottle of Lubeguard Platinum just because and will get it on a maintaince schedule now. Very happy with the results and I'm glad I checked when I did. Not burnt but lacking that pungent transmission fluid smell.

Hey Guys! I have almost 85k on my 2021 taco trd sport v6. I've been taking it to the dealership for its services since its birth for its basic health. They recommended a Brake Fluid Change($386.65) & a Transmission Drain & Fill ($436.62). That seems insane to me. An independent Toyota Service Shop told me $170 for the Brake Fluid Change, so I'm probably just gonna go there... or do it myself following Team Oil Drop's vids. What do you guys think about the drain & fill though? The independent t shop told me they don't do them, read the owner's manual and that its sealed but idk man I'm seeing conflicting opinions.

Some say to never touch it.
Some say to only drain and fill. Especially if it's never been done ever.
Some say to always do a complete flush and refill. Also, drop pan and change filter.
Same say to do a complete flush and refill once in the beginning, then only drain and fill after.
Some say to only do a drain and fill at 100K and then 50K after.
CCN says to only drain and fill. Only flush + fill, plus and maybe drop pan and change filter as a last resort.
He says the fibrous material from the clutches floating around are good to keep in there.

Personally I think I will do just drain and fills. Once at 100K and then at 50K there after. I'm looking at, dare I say a trusted dealership at this point. I don't have the space or resources.

    YMMV..... Especially if you tow.

My Tacoma is manual but I did a drain/fill ATF on my wife's 2nd gen Sequoia. This is the way I filled it from the top, really cheap and simple. See the funnel set up from 4:00 mark

    Are you comfortable DIY it?
Fluid, washer, tools and rudimental obd2 will be close to $100 or more. If you follow Toyota guidelines, you would need a scanner with active test. It can be expensive.

Is there a published service life/change interval for the transmission filter? (Valve Body Oil Strainer Assembly)

Additional question: the Factory Manual specifies 3.1 liters/2.7qts when doing a drain and full but only 2.4 liters/2.5qts when the oil pan sub assembly is removed. Shouldn't that number when the pan is removed be higher then drain and fill since the drain plug isn't at the bottom of the pan?

My tacoma is a 2020 sr5 with towing package ,do I have to bypass the oil cooler thermostat? I have a otofix D1 Lite scanner.
I connected the obd2 scanner and i was able to put the transmission on temp check mode, and yes i have to bypass the oil cooler thermostat.
