I have a 2019 doublecab V6 that seems like the A/C compressor failed at under 70k miles. It was a northern car that now lives in Texas so I see the compressors may leave the chat without the new electric fans from Toyotas TSB. But before I go tearing apart my A/C system I was hoping somebody else may have insight to whats going on.
I was driving at highway speeds when the A/C just shut off. No blinking lights or warnings. It was about 106 out but it's been through worse before. I stopped to diagnose what was going on and whenever the A/C is turned on I get a loud whirring/squealing noise and it turns off, just blows hot air. I checked relays and fuses, nothings blown, nothings visibly broke in or around the compressor area.

Unless you have equipment, and technical know how, you have to take your Tacoma to a shop that deals with A/C, to check it out, it don't have to be Toyota dealer. The shop probraly will try to charge up A/C with refrigereant, and dye, to see any leaks. Go from there.

For what's it worth, I used to own a Mazda B2500 pickup truck prior to my 2019 Tacoma. For years, the AC on the Mazda slowly started to lose cooling until just warm air would blow thru the vents. Over the years, I took it to various AC shops and they would tell me I needed a complete new AC system costing big bucks. I kept suffering in the Texas heat driving with the windows rolled down (and drinking plenty of cold drinks!). I kept the faith that it would be a minor repair and that I just needed to find an honest mechanic. Well, I finally found an auto repair facility that did AC repairs. After hooking up the machine and hoses to my Mazda, the mechanic gave me a thumbs up and said it is holding vacuum. You just need an AC charge. Total bill was like $90 for the AC service which was back in 2021. My advice is take your truck to an independent Auto AC shop to diagnose the problem. If they hit you with a $2k-4k repair estimate, get a 2nd and 3rd opinion from other AC shops. It could be an AC clutch that went out or something easy and cheap to fix. Or, it could be something major. Good luck!

sounds like the clutch on your compressor failed. you dont need to be a specialist to fix this.
