I started checking under my Taco's the hood every time I get gas, like I used to do with my oil burners.

So my update would be that the new oil cap is staying tight. Replaced it couple months ago at an oil change and still tighter than a crabs ass.
    Time will tell.

Good to know, thanks. Just called the stealership and the parts guy said it’s “not uncommon” for Tacomas to lose their fill cap. Not an issue with other models though for some reason. Fucking thing is $55 though! Gotta love that Canadian pricing.

    Yes
I have an ‘08 & ‘20 Skinner in yard. As well as a ‘16 Tundra and two other classic Yotas.
This is first time I’ve ever come across an oil cap issue on a Toyota.

Very interesting that oil cap(s) are still reported missing.

Even before I replaced the OEM cap with the TRD cap, there was never an issue with my cap vibrating off prior to replacement.

It's good to do periodic engine bay checks...like when tanking up...which I can start doing.

I do a walk-around my truck at gas station fill-ups, checking tire caps are secure and looking for wear/tear of tires & hopefully not finding nails pierced into the rubber.

Just a little PM (Preventative Maintenance) for the exterior of the truck.

I think this entire phenomenon can be chalked up to the mythical Oil Cap Fairy who comes like a thief in the night.

Check under your pillow and see if they left you a tenner.

First I’ve heard of it as too. It’s odd because the fill cap is usually extremely tight when I take it off, so I’m not sure what is causing them to just fall off.
