Getting back into trail riding and have a two bikes on order for my wife and myself. One bike is @265 lbs and the other is @220 lbs, so noting crazy heavy, but I assume, even on an angle the rear wheels will be on the tailgate.

    Does the tailgate need reinforcing?
Are the stock tie-down points (front, rear, rail sliding cleats) plenty strong?
Any suggestions for upgrading or augmenting the factory stuff?

    Appreciated,
    Hawk

I had no problems during 6 hours of driving with a kdx200.

I also posted some time ago a napkin estimate of what load the tailgate could take that is much higher than what the rear of a dirt bike weighs. Caveat: I did not do any dynamic analysis; only static.

I have the long bed so the bike fit in with the tail gate up but I drove over 8hrs with a Yamaha MT-07 in the bed with a front wheel chock and multiple rhino straps bike weighed at the time around 405lbs. It never moved and didn’t even flex my leaf pack. It sat on the tail gate for awhile getting it in and out and the tail gate was very solid. Your mileage may vary.
