    Hi all

This is my first post on Tacoma World, I just have some general questions about the 2tr-fe concerning boost options or maybe a re-gear. I have a virtually stock 2009 4wd 5mt 4 banger. I got it from my grandpa about a year ago and it had around 50 000 km on it. Since then, I have put an additional 25 000 kms. Mostly highway, but it has also been on its fair share of weekend river fishing trips up here in northern British Columbia. On the trail, it keeps up, and often surpasses the fully built rigs. The highway is a different story. I am from the prairies where hills are non-existent, but it's no surprise that in the mountains the truck is a little sluggish. I was curious about my options for producing a little more power or anything that might help.

I have done a little research on turbo and supercharger kits. the kits for this engine are not common, but they do exist. I am not adverse to doing the work myself, I would enjoy the challenge and the learning curve. Some people suggest a re-gear to 4.88. I am slightly overwhelmed by the quantity of different opinions on this topic.

I have the stock 265 tire size right now and I think I will stick to that size. I will prioritize tread and quality before I go up in size. Plus I think I would be doing more harm than good with the whopping 155 bhp this thing is supposed to make. I also have a camping set up in the bed.

I know the obvious solution is sell it and get a 6 cylinder. but what fun is that. I have sentimental value to this truck, it being my grandpas. I intend on driving it until it blows up. only then will I put something else in it. And it sure will not be as boring as a 6 cylinder. All I'm doing in inquiring. I am still in school so I will not be doing any crazy upgrades, just QOL improvements for now. I am just curious about potential future projects.

Any info is greatly appreciated, I attached some photos for reference. Screenshot_20250527_120605_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20250527_121711_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20250527_121825_Gallery.jpg

    Still thinking about it.
The 2TR-FE makes peak torque at 3800 rpm, peak power at 5200. So to me, that means that below 3800, that's just economy mode--not power.

Not trying to school you :). I have yet to learn of a power-adder that is reliable and/or affordable for these.

I suspect that most people that feel like it's underpowered are not giving it a chance to work in the rpm range where it has a chance to perform well.
