Yeah, that's a biggie (I'd be doing Android Auto)
Google Maps and GPS are a big reason too...

Do youse guys do the Bluetooth thing to pair up the phone or wired USB off the lead on the back of the headunit?
I'm thinking might as well use USB and keep the phone charged :notsure:

Transfer music files/folders or just leave them on the phone?

You know, I'd do the job myself if not for running the backup camera cable.
    That looks like werk

    :fistbump:

    Transfer files??

I Bluetooth my phone to the OEM head unit - play Spotify and let GoogleMaps blahblah when I need it

@Gritto - Here you go! :hattip:

Modern head units in a 2nd Generation Toyota Tacoma (2005–2015) offer a wide range of benefits over the factory-installed units. Upgrading can significantly enhance both the functionality and driving experience. Here are the main advantages:

    1. Enhanced Audio Quality
    • Better sound processing: Modern units offer built-in equalizers, digital signal processing (DSP), and higher-quality outputs.

    • Support for aftermarket speakers/amps: Easier integration with upgraded sound systems.
    2. Smartphone Integration
    • Apple CarPlay & Android Auto: Seamless control of your phone’s apps (navigation, music, messages, etc.) on the touchscreen.

    • Voice commands: Safer hands-free operation using Siri or Google Assistant.
    3. Integrated Navigation
    • Offline GPS navigation: Many units offer built-in maps that don’t rely on your phone.

    • Live traffic updates: When connected to data or Wi-Fi.
    4. Backup and Front Camera Support
    • Rear-view camera integration: Adds a significant safety boost if your truck didn’t originally have this.

    • Multi-camera setups: For better off-road visibility or trailer assistance.
    5. Connectivity Options
    • Bluetooth: Stream music and make hands-free calls.

    • USB/AUX inputs: For broader device compatibility.

    • Wi-Fi and hotspot support: Some head units can connect to Wi-Fi for updates and streaming.
    6. Customization and UI Improvements
    • Modern touchscreen interfaces: Easier and more intuitive than old button-heavy systems.

    • Themes and layout options: Customize the look and functionality.
    7. Expandability
    • OBD-II integration: View real-time vehicle diagnostics on-screen.

    • Steering wheel control compatibility: Many units allow retention of factory controls with an adapter.

    • Dash cam support: Some allow front dash cam recording directly to the unit.
    Popular Brands for Tacoma Upgrades
    • Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, Sony (for reliable performance)

    • ATOTO, Joying, Eonon (budget-friendly Android-based options)

That OBD-II integration is a great feature!

As you can probably tell, I've only just begun looking into this.
I'll probably have a replacement installed within a month.

And thanks to all who replied :hattip:

I reports a coolant leak on my tablet during my pretrip inspection. Anything I report automatically prevents me from leaving the yard. So I was delayed for an hour and a half. Between dumping and travel I got on route at 10:00. Then I started to lose power and running badly. Pulled over and I got a coolant leak. But not a lot, seems like a circulation issue.
Might get towed and put into someones truck just to ride along or go home and go feeschin
    I vote feeschin :burp:
