I am currently driving a mostly stock 2012 that is at 175,000 miles (I put a slightly bigger tire on it from the stock size). I expect to be getting close to 200,000 miles by next summer and am thinking of upgrading my truck to a new, or newer, model. If I decide to upgrade, I plan to try and find a solid 2023 or get a brand new 2026 when they come out. Those of you who have owned a 2nd gen and either/ both of the 3rd and 4th gens, was the change worth it in your eyes? Also, which gen do you feel was the best to build out into a off-road toy with lift, bigger tires, armor, etc.?

Just looking for advice based on real peoples experiences with newer models, Im not looking for a debate on which gen is best or worst. Thank you for your time in reading and responding!

    back to bone stock.
i have a 2006 that a drunk driver hit and was uninsured. it was the catalyst for me to buy a 2023. my own insurance offered me a tiny stipend to fix my truck and i found a body shop that said, "with a few shortcuts, we can work with that budget". i new have both.

if i didnt get hit, i would still be driving the 06 full time. smooth, reliable, better mpg by a tiny bit. i have 225,000 miles on it and i still drive it all the time. i fits my kayak better.

i dont mod my trucks anymore. i just pay for them, and drive them. my 2023 has been pretty fantastic. no issues. you cant go wrong. not if you can afford it.

Thank you for your perspective. Both sounds like a fun option too

I have a second gen 07 & third gen 21. I like the second gen better because of the low end torque it has with the 4L engine. I also like the second gen better when going up hills.

no denying the fact that my iPhone interfacing with the newer truck doesnt suck. that is kinda a huge convince on long trips...where the only have radio stations that play latino or Christian music...
