It's been so long, I almost forget how deplorable the original "tune" was.

 

The only time I missed my stock truck was during the build process while I was sorting everything out. I thought about trading it in multiple times tbh, but once everything was tuned (suspension, ecu, audio dsp) and working together very nicely, I think I would hate driving a stock one lol. It's such a joy to be in now and it was absolutely worth the years of labor.

 

Yes, "Mild" is an improvement over OEM settings.

The gearing holds a little longer getting higher RPM/torque.

Press the ECT button and the gears are held longer...and the response is instantaneous.

 

That's what I've heard from other folks who've done a tune!

Is it true you can test all of the settings before committing to two?

 

You know I really think a lot of us are more stock than we think, and that is a good thing! A stock powertrain is what I have and want for longevity and ease of service. Yes, my audio and interior mods are not stock, but so what-it won't affect me down the line. To answer the OP, I really don't have any regrets on the stuff I have done (mainly accessories not mods). I have modified many vehicles in the past and have frequently gone too far.

 

Coordinate with Tuner.

Let Tuner know your driving requirements:

Mostly Street/possibly some off-road
Tire Size/Setup
Gearing if you’ve changed differential

That’s just what I can recall as examples.

It’s been since 2022; 1 year after driving my Sport OEM that I made the change.

Ask your Tuner if you can sample suggested Tune…if you don’t like it, ask Tuner if it can be set back to OEM.

You shouldn’t need to sample a plethora of Tunes! lol

If you don’t like what is suggested, work with your Tuner to find a Tune suitable for your needs.

 

DDI seat jackers. Forget they are in there but use them everyday. And the clutch adm.

It's MILD mannered to a point.

I'm learning/adjusting to "not-so-aggressive" foot pedal control on the regular.

Especially now, in the rain...tires will spin out...so, I'll lightly accelerate, gradually picking up speed.

But on dry roads, the power is there!

Just determine if you want a good jump in Mild or if you wanna come off the line a little more aggressive.

 

I've done pretty much every mod you can think of mainly because of mod bug + covid boredom with my 2020 pro. This includes upper/lower TC control arms, Super charger, fuel rail, bumper, lights, snorkel, racks, sliders, skids, all Meso, and everything in between. What I can't live without....the DVR and Red/Green sticker on my steering wheel for phone connection! But I have to admit that I love that supercharger for the pep when I want it.

Regarding pedal control - Going from a whippy AWD 3.6L 4-door car to the Tacoma has been... humbling. And adding a modest lift and 33" tires slowed me down to a grandpa's pace on that highway. You could say that I'm a much "safer" driver now that I have like zero acceleration relative to most highway traffic, particularly driving through places like Atlanta.

LOL actually so much so that I've delt with more tailgaters and aggressive drivers in the last couple of years than I ever have - I invested in a dash cam!!!

 

Supercharger is next level - that's when you know you've really got the mod bug! Which one did you go with?

 

Biggest tire I'll go with are 285s...and that's a BIG maybe.

275s are reasonable with my TRD Lift...depending on the "Offset".

It would more-than-likely be safer to go Zero offset than -10 based on distance from inner sidewall and pokey on the outside.
