That’s reassuring. Especially if a non-hybrid owner wants to upgrade to a bigger turbo in the future. Seems like the trans and diffs should be able to handle the power adequately

I'm not aware of one at this time. I'm not sure we'll see many of these due to the liability associated with the downpipe essentially being comprised of both catalysts. I'm sure there will be someone who still makes one available, though.

I'd love to get my hands on a properly designed catted downpipe if anyone is listening... :p

Next time you put a Tacoma on the dyno test it in Tow/Haul mode with the nannies shut off I’d be curious to see the results.

It doesn't change the WOT output. What changes based on drive mode is the part-throttle torque request. All drive modes produce the same power.

EDIT: To add to the above, The difference you feel based on drive mode is what percentage of the available total output you are using relative to your pedal input. All drive modes eventually command "full torque" at WOT, giving you the full output of the motor.

Eco Mode will require a greater amount of pedal input to achieve a specific desired torque value where as Sport or Tow-Haul will achieve that same desired torque value with much less pedal input.

Hopefully that helps and clarifies the drive mode operation.

There are other changes but none are relevant to engine output.

I drove my normal commute today which is 32 miles each way with surface streets and stop-n-go traffic. As I said before, the truck just feels more responsive. I'm not sure how to put it into words but it almost feels like the truck is always ready to go... like as soon as you touch the throttle it accelerates, but at the same time it's very smooth and doesn't feel touchy or jerky. I've only used "normal" drive mode so far but it's great for me. I was worried about the tune making the engine rev too much like sport mode, but like @Gmak621 said it doesn't do that at all.

If @JustDSM figures out how to unlock the load limiting then I think the tune will go from being great to being perfect!

Actually Toyota states that the rear diff is differant. The drive shaft may be as well, I have not confirmed.
The rear differential size is 9.5" (Hybrid and TRD M/T, same as 2022+ Tundra), the Non-Hybrid A/T and non-TRD M/T is smaller (8.2")

I should have been more specific, my apologies. I was referring to the transmission in my previous reference.

Generally and historically speaking the Toyota diffs punch well above their weight class in terms of handing ‘the power’.

We’ve got zero concern about any of the available differentials having trouble dealing with the output the stock turbo is capable of generating.

    For anyone contemplating this,

I don't understand how a person could buy one of these trucks and leave it without this recalibration.
What Justin has done here is magical, my local tuner is one of the coolest people I've ever met, and I find driving my truck to feel very similar to driving my Evo 9 - super fun, eager, smooth, feels like a much happier vehicle to operate.
Not to mention Justin and team have fixed several details I honestly felt were real issues.
This is exactly how the truck should have been shipped in my opinion.

As someone who has spent countless hours re-flashing a vehicle in the pursuit of that perfect turbo driving feel mixed with a happy, knock-free engine, I could immediately tell how much time and effort must have been invested here.

    Thank you for your service!

How did the tune affect your gas mileage, if at all? Consider this a general question for all in this thread.

So many variables here however my early experience is an immediate uptick in mileage simply because I spend much less time with the throttle open compared to stock

I'll report back after 500 miles which should be next week

magic tune! makes more power with throttle closed so you get better mileage! i find it hard to believe that any tune that adds power would relate to higher fuel economy

It's only been a couple of days, but so far I've seen no change in my fuel economy. I got the tune fully aware that it would likely decrease my fuel economy (more power requires more fuel) but so far it's relatively the same. My lifetime average is 19.8mpg and I can see anything from 18mpg to 23mpg on my daily commute depending on the level of traffic. The stop and go traffic really kills my fuel economy.

Difficult to interpret what you mean here but I find I'm spending way less time accelerating - leading to more time with the throttle closed

throttle closed means injector duty cycle goes to zero

But fun tune means it's hard to not accelerate more...

Wow, you sealed the deal for me! My biggest gripe is the gutless feeling when trying to accelerate in day to day driving. I think that instant throttle response with a more smooth power delivery is going to make me love this truck even more. I’m glad you’re enjoying it. I’m going to have to hit up PNW tuning here soon for an appointment.

What do you mean as far as load limiting?

Oh sorry, I was referring to an early post by Justin from OTT about Toyota putting some kind of load limiting on torque in 1st gear and 2nd gear.
