I keep getting a weird tapping sound either from my back seat, back window or back headliner. Seems to only happen when windy or highway speeds anybody else have this issue

Tell the passenger in the backseat to stop tapping.

I have experienced something similar off and on. Feel like it has to be the rear window but hard to reproduce.

Ya I’m gonna try and add some tap over the window and see if it stops or is less annoying

Just an idea; Check the seals that cover the roof lines for the rack, they are notorious for coming loose. Before I used double sided tape to hold mine down, they would lift and slap the roof leaving the car wash.

Are the seatbelts secured down with the clips? I’ve had noise when the window was down from not storing the seat belts snug and secure back there

I get it when my sunroof is open. Wonder if it’s the vent on the back wall.

Try buckling the rear seatbelts to see if it goes away. Also try emptying your storage cubbies to see if it goes away. I once had a wrench that was rattling in the under-seat storage. Drove me bananas.

Also check the jack and tire iron under the back seat to make it is secured.

Years ago I had a customer come in with a loose golf ball rolling around in the spare tire well of his BMW. He was pissed that I charged him to find the noise but I'll bet he learned his lesson

On my truck I had a light tapping sound only at highway speed but it was more forward in the cab, like down by the pedals. Ended up being one of those paper-like inner fender liners above the frame-rail flapping around in the wind. The plastic retainer popped out.

The passenger side headrest will rattle sometimes. I put my hand on it and it stops. Maybe I need to rebalance my tires :)

And yes check the seat belts, they should be clipped onto the pillars when not in use

Maybe a heat shield below the cab near the exhaust is flapping? Not the shields on the exhaust pipe but the thin ones attached to the body?

If its easy to replicate at highway speeds, this sounds like a perfect opportunity to play "first to find where the noise is coming from gets ice cream tonight" with your kids.

My roof rack had a loose mount on it, and the tapping sound source also seemed to be from behind my seat.

Could it the spare tire chain rattling?

Can you get someone to ride in the back seat to try and isolate the noise? Or you get back there and have a buddy drive?

This is what I came to suggest as well! There are easy to miss clips between the shoulders of the seats and the walls. The seat belt is meant to clip in there when not in use and might be your rattle! I know it's gotten me a few times as well lol
