Meanwhile a lot of us grew up sitting in the bed of a truck where our parents would yell to set down in the bed and not on the rail if we got on a road faster than 55mph.
And safety in a car, well shit. That’s just not sitting in the front seat. Most of the time it was spent sitting in the back of a wagon with our legs crossed or flipping over the seats. LOL…
I was at a friends once and my mom called because I was not home and it was after dark. I had a sister named Jenny and this friend just happens to have a dog named Jenny also. So my mom calls and my friend said they could not talk because Jenny fell out of the bed of the truck and hung up. I get home a little while later to find my mom losing her shit trying to track down my sister. I was like Jenny is all fucked up. Then my sister arrived and we sorted it all out!! Lol, good times!

 

Honestly man. Your best bet is to go by the nearest firehouse and ask them to give you a class on installing your baby seat. I was a firefighter and we used to teach classes to new parents on how to properly secure a child seat.

 

Keep in mind the 2 year requirement is only a minimum recommendation. You are not required to change to forward facing after 2 years. Rear seat facing is safest and you should always attempt to stay rear facing until the child exceeds the weight or height limit (which ever comes first) on the specific seat for rear facing limits. It may look like they're uncomfortable after 2 years with their legs scrunched up but it's actually much more comfortable for them, and much safer. Just go by the weight/height limits on the seat itself before switching to forward facing. But yes, 2 years would be the minimum that is recommended. I was a certified car seat installer for many years and have heard a lot of myths and seen some terrible installs. Install with the seat belt tightly and keep rear facing for as long as the seat allows (if possible in your situation) - that is the safest route.

For anyone else stumbling across this thread like I did months ago. Here is a Nuna Pipa Aire RX with Relx base in a 2nd gen double cab (same size as third gen).

I don’t drive gangster, I normally drive with the front seat in the most vertical position. I only had to scoot my seat up one “click” to get this car seat to fit.

With the car seat set to position 1 (most reclined position for newborns), it almost touches the drivers seat. Once it rotates more upright to position 2,3,4 it gets better and I can move my seat back to my default driving style.

We used the LATCH points to secure the seat on the drivers side. The middle seatbelt just didn't fit the Relx base super well. No matter how tight I got the seatbelt the base still wiggled more than I wanted.

The Tacoma is the primary baby carrier, he rides in it over 1.5 hours every day going to and from daycare. If commutes are long I recommend a camera monitor shown below. It works much better than the mirrors.

We love this car seat. No complaints.

FWIW it also fits great in a 21 Forester, 19 Rx 350, and a 24 Bronco.

 

stumbled across this searching if the base fits. Is there a reason why you didn’t put the seat behind the passenger seat?

Is the camera itself battery operated?

 

IMO if you are going to get into a crash, the driver will be more likely to subconsciously protect their side of the vehicle rather than the passenger side. Not sure where I read that but it makes sense to me.
I'm also lazy and don't want to walk all the way around the truck to grab my kid lol.

Camera is plugged into the cigarette outlet below for power, and a small cable is run all the way back to the camera itself for power and video signal.

One practical reason to put it on the passenger side is because when parallel parked the door will open toward the sidewalk not the street. It'll take time to get the kid strapped in and situated and you won't have to worry about cars zooming by and the door hanging out into traffic

 

Same, but my dad was even looser with the rules.
Once we were off the black top, he let us ride on the hood.

 

That's fair. I can't remember the last time I parallel parked though.
