hi i have a 1998 tacoma 4x4. i want to switch to an elocker up front. i found one on ebay with the gearing i want but ebay says it only fits in 01-04 automatic trucks. i had thought all from first gen are compatable?

also the control module and button says rr diff lock on the button. i have lunch box in the back only need the front controlled by the module. does this button work for the front on this control module. the control module i found is part# 89533-35070. i also see pn# 89533-35060 does it matter which one i get. i have the manual and figure i can figure out the wiring from that?

These trucks never came with a front locker. The eBay listing you posted shows a front diff with electronic ADD (automatic differential disconnect). If you want a front locker it’ll have to be an aftermarket one that you add to your existing front diff.

Early 1st gens had manual front hubs, then they switched to vacuum actuated ADD, then finally electronically actuated ADD. This is why a complete front diff assembly will be specific to certain years

thanks everyone i was thinking the box attached was the locking mechinism like the rear has. i was thinking i could get a locker for slightly more than changing gearing with this item. guess i will have to wait till i can afford an aftermarket elocker.
