Hey y’all, I’ve got this idea to slide 1/4” plywood pieces between the vinyl and the aluminum crossbars on a brand new gator folding soft tonneau cover and bolt them to the cross beams. I notice the crossbars are bowed out a little so rain doesn’t pool up, but 1/4” seems like it would fit quite nice and add a little more security. Anyone tried this? Maybe add some double sided carpet tape to tape the vinyl to the ply.

    Adds weight.

Makes more difficult to fold it up or remove when needed.

Not seeing how it adds security? :notsure:

I think it would add security because you can no longer cut through the vinyl with a razor knife because it would have a wood backing. And the weight added is only 20lbs.

it wouldn't stop them from cutting the vinyl. it would just prevent them from immediately accessing the bed after cutting the vinyl. but then you've made a stupid and timid thief angry. and they quickly realize they have a knife that punctures rubber tires as easily as that vinyl top...
