Hello everyone. Can someone advise me on whether or not having limited slip additive in gear oil is going to ruin my front/rear diffs and transfer case? LS additive is not needed for my particular truck i know that for a fact, but I cannot find any gear oil anywhere that does not contain LS additive.
Has anyone noticed a difference with using a gear oil with the additive versus not with the additive?

    Thank you!

The easiest and best way to determine what specific type of oil you need is to click the "Find Products for my Vehicle" and enter your truck information. It will answer your questions.

I don't think it makes a difference in your diffs, and probably not in your transfer case. It will in a manual transmission, since you need GL-4 in that.

It doesnt make a difference, ideally you want simple GL5 for front and rear and GL4 for transfer case. (you can use GL5 on the tcase but its not ideal)

The additives won't hurt anything, just makes it more expensive.

No , it won't hurt ... We use X brand of a 75-90 oil in all our truck and SUVs (millions of miles) and no problem of any kind. It says "limited slip additive". I was gonna add recommendation here but the thread would have been hi jacked !

Redline 75w90 is GTG for front and rear diff, and their formula negates the need for LSD additive. Redline MT90 for the trans and transfer, 6spd manual. Life is good.

Nah, doesn’t matter for non limited slip, which is why a lot/ most oils just include it, works fine for both

I actually never heard of using GL4 instead of GL5 in the T case. I’ve always used GL5 as the owners manual specifies GL5, did they change the recommendation for 2012-2015 Tacamos? Thanks

I used 75W90 GL5 on all my Toyota transfer cases. Every dealer uses GL5.

Technically you're supposed to use a straight 75W LF transfer fluid$$$$ but GL4 is closer to that oil.

The thing is, the transfer case doesn't do much, especially in warm climates, so there's very little cause for concern with fluid choices. It's just a giant chain submerged in oil.

I believe the new trucks use WS ATF fluid now, probably in an effort to reduce drag.
