Head Check Valve Oil Leak? Dealer Says it's not the Timing Cover

    I'm not planning on removing the lines, just loosening the belt and moving the pump out of the way. I'd rather use too much than not enough, and I'm glad to hear that 10 months later it's still working out for you.

    Yep I’m definitely guilty of having used this trick before… I’ll give it a try and from the sound of it, the timing cover gasket seems to be prone to failure in general so plan on using rtv along with a new gasket eventually :/

    Did everyone drain the oil before you did this? And how long did you wait after the oil was drained until you made the RTV repair? Essentially, how long did it take to stop seeping oil before you made the repair?

    You don't need to drain the oil. The oil is down in the oil pan just sitting there. Just clean it off really good with brake cleaner, let it dry and then go to town with the sealant
