Don't go cheap, buy a good AGM type battery. I am going on 5 years now with mine.

    Don't overspend...

    Get a NeverStart ( Everstart ) from Walmart - 3 year battery for $139.00
I live in the desert and change mine every 2 years regardless in my 3 vehicles.

Just as good as any, doesn't weigh a ton like the AGM.

East penn batteries I find hold up good and rarely ever get corrosion on the terminals and are competitively priced. The factory interstates seem to need corrosion protection constantly .

Toyota batteries are hit or miss. My factory battery developed a bad cell at 33 months in to my warranty. Toyota gave me a free new Toyota True Start battery which is now 6.5 years old.

I generally get a Costco Interstate battery when I need a new battery outside of warranty.

I went to a local battery supplier and picked up a blemished factory equivalent battery that has been flawless since the factory one failed at 5 + years of service.

( Jeesh!!! Toyota quality has really gone down hill!!! o_O )

Truck is daily driven so the battery works for a living.

Maybe buy a new serpentine belt while you’re at it.

I'd got with Costco Interstate. I have Interstate batteries in 3 of our cars. Last one I replaced lasted just over 6 years. Not bad I think.

Just replaced mine, plus the 2 upper idler pulleys. One was screaming randomly. 126,000 + kms on them.

Johnson controls makes the interstate battery which is the same as the TrueStart. OP get yourself a 2nd gen Battery tray which is for the towing package for a 2nd gen. The tray is cheap and drops right in place, then get you a 27F battery with more CCA.

I'm going to second this advice....
Always get the biggest (contains the most energy) size you can in the most durable format you can, like AGM. I have however heard that AGM requires a higher charge rate and that requires some circuitry changes around the fuse box under the hood or an OTT Tune to bump up the charge voltage.

Almost every vehicle out there has a super premium deluxe version.
That version has more accessories (power hungry).
Usually the premium version of your vehicle will take a bigger battery (capacity and size). If that doesn't get you a bigger one, do the tray swap mentioned above.

    Or..........
There are a TON of threads on here with battery advice. One of those threads is unique because a contributor recommends going to a Caterpillar (CAT) Equipment Supply Store and getting a CAT Battery in your size because they stand up to heat and abuse.
    https://parts.cat.com/en/catcorp/8C-3602
That might be just my game when this battery starts to tank.

While you are at it - Get a Noco Battery Pack too.
    https://no.co/gb40
We never get to pick the time and place that our batteries die on us - but they do and they are evil little bastards about leaving you at the worst moment.

    <=== Guilty...
Batteries are the one area that I really over think it.

The idea is that maybe a little sweating it now means the truck will die in a Pep Boys Parking Lot and not out on a trail in the desert where there is no cell connection. I know it doesn't work that way but that's what plays out in my head.

Get a bunch of 18650's and a Spot Welder.
Juuuuust kidding. At 4.2v charged I tried this and couldn't get it to math out right to match a car battery.

To get the full charge of a 12v Car Battery you would need 3.6 18650's. 3 would be too small and 4 would be way too big. Tried to make it 3x4 batteries for a total of 12 18650's with a 12v capacitor on the end of it and it never worked out right that I felt safe starting a car with it. I still think there is a way to do this but I'm just not smart enough YET. And at 52, probably not going to be.

You need four LiFePO4 (lithium-iron) cells to do that (and is what 12V lithium automotive batteries effectively use). 3.6V @ full-charge, 3.2V nominal.

Another vote for Interstate from Costco, or Walmart (Everstart).
