I recently bought a used 2023 Tacoma and removed the driver side (LH) cowl side trim board to see if I have the pigtail for a trailer brake controller. I see this tap (two wires tapped for what I assume is a single purpose) and have no idea what it is for. Does anyone?

The tap looks professionally done. The two wires are routed under the removable driver (LH) front door scuff plate. I cant see where they go from there.

    Any info would be appreciated.

Follow the leads. It's not factory so that much is sure. Does it happen to have an amp behind or under the rear seat?

You have a power tailgate lock?

Looks like an aftermarket power tailgate, I think the older version of the Pop n Lock hooked up like that before they came out with a plug n play version.

I do have a power tailgate lock. I havent been able to figure out where the wires go. They go under the length of the driver door scuff plate but are not under the left rear scuff plate. I have not pulled off the b frame trim to look behind it.

there is not an amp or anything under or behind the rear seat.

I have seen a lot of youtube videos of people finding gps trackers on their cars so I thought that might be what it was. I was tempted to unplug it to see what stopped working but have been afraid it would adversely effect something I care about. I do like the power tailgate lock.

You can always plug it back in once you find out what it disables.

Was going to suggest the same thing; unplug, test power tailgate lock - confirm without pulling any other panels.

I agree with NavyMike. It’s likely the pop n lock for the tailgate, follow the wires back

I almost posted that I hoped it wouldnt explode. But I didnt because I didnt want to unintentionally insult anyone. Nice to know that someone else shares my sense of humor.

You guys were right. It is for the tailgate power lock. mystery solved.

I am constantly amazed at how much information I can get from this forum. I have found out things that the dealer service department couldnt tell me.

    thanks

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Folks here on TW can be very helpful when it comes to troubleshooting. Often much more so than your friendly (or not) local dealer. Just don't expect your dealer to be helpful with non-OEM stuff.
Keep in mid though, if the question can be answered by your owner's manual you can expect a lot of sarcastic RTFM responses.

Pretty much everything I've needed to find out about my truck, what to buy, what to avoid and how to install or fix anything and everything has been found here.
Additionally, I joined a group of fun guys where we meet several times a year and do off-road stuff and drink way too much when we get back to camp.
