Tundra Tacoma chassis swap

Hey, everyone. I own an ‘05 Crew cab TRD Tacoma. 4.0 2wheel drive. I also have an ‘03 Extended cab Tundra. The Tundra is V8 4x4. I have looked at the wheel base of both vehicles (to start) and they are basically the same with and length. I want to know if swapping the bodies is possible? I want a V8 4x4 Tacoma. I’ve researched several alternatives in converting the Tacoma to 4x4 and since I already have the Tundra sitting there, would it not be the most practical way to go about it?

 

Anything is possible with a big enough budget !!

The wheelbase is the least of your worries !

Your wanting to put the Tacoma Body on the Tundra chassis ??

Do you have the Fabrication Skills and the tools to fabricate all the custom parts needed your self or enough friends to do the work??

Not only do you have the mechanical fabrication you have the merging of the electrical harnesses

Paying a shop to do this would be so very expensive .

Then what you would have is a one of a kind vehicle having any value only to you and a very small market

Best most practical way sell the Tacoma and Tundra buy what you want

I have been doing this type of interesting projects since the mid seventies.

I am curious enough to crawl under a Tundra and look closer

Meso built a custom vehicle with a Tundra front end housing a hellcat engine and a Tacoma cab so anything is possible..... Think he had a totally custom frame though.

Place to start would be to look at cab mount locations and cab dimension differences. My guess is you would need to weld new cab mounts to the frame. You probably would need to keep the Tundra hood and fenders so how are you going to blend those with the skinnier Tacoma cab?

Once you get the mechanical logistics out of the way you would need to move all the Tundra electronics and wiring into the Tacoma cab. Not a small task.
