really hunting for something bright w good CRI, led and industrial but with. Nightlight. Tall order.

 

Thing with the fan, roof is sloped and exhaust vent in the ceiling is tight. Relocating would have been heaps of work for no actual gain. And then I’d have to relocate the back light assuming I moved the fan there. Couple of days of really fruitless effort. I can successfully suppress any desire to hose down the ceiling drywall and splash into the vent.

 

This might be my pick but I’m sure it’s pretty crappy.

exposed is fine, as long as it's protected--ie, ran within the joist spaces, and spaced far enough up/down to prevent damage from roofing nails, or if the area was drywalled, nails/screws protruding upwards.

i don't recall where your current light is in there. wall mount or ceiling mount? most of the night light fixtures right now are single-switch, dual function lights, where you need to flip it on twice to get to the night light mode, but many either default to nighlight mode all the time, requiring a double-tap of the switch to get full brightness, or default to blinding mode. neither of which is ideal, imo.

personally, i used a gfci with a built in night light in my bathroom, so it goes on/off as needed

it's enough light to get into the bathroom and do what needs doing late at night without turning any other lights on.

code just requires that it's on a gfci. but it's really not ideal, as it can suck up additional moisture which can shorten the lifespan of the fan motor.

 

That’s a cool option, GFCI w guide light. Looks like they have a 20A version too. I’ll try it out and see how I like it. Thanks.

Vanity light box is in the ceiling. I have 3 hots accessible, one constant as it feeds the bench plugs (aka junction box) and then both switched hot and occupancy sensor hot. So a 3 level light might actually be ideal, super low on constant, moderately low on occupancy sensor and then max bright with the manual switch. I really should have done a second 12/2 jumper to the fan so I’d have light options there too, based on placement but it’s a small room and I’m already at overkill I think.

If I had more time I might be tempted to build something unique and industrial. Maybe down the road and just slap the florescent back up w the led tubes.

Any recommendations for under kitchen cabinet lighting? Currently I have 4 wired fixtures each with a 24" fluorescent tube. The ballasts on two are going bad. Would like to replace with high quality LEDs.

 

I have these, over all I like them but the remote is a little over sized for my taste

I went through a couple of iterations of under cabinet lighting and settled on the ikea line. It’s made by someone else and likely poor CRI but I liked the features, remove + wired switch, color change options, linkable for 30” cabinets, clean and easy install, low profile, pleasant light and reasonable pricing. Modular too, a bit tricky to figure out all the specific parts needed but nice once you get it done. Aesthetics are maybe the cleanest of all options since I only use for short periods in the morning / evening.
