Core / radiator support cracks

Found a few cracks underneath the headlights on the core/radiator support. Seems like a typical issue with all of the weight up front. Not only do I have the group 27 battery up there, but I have a similar sized secondary battery in the engine bay mounted over the passenger wheel well and I just installed an arb front bumper. Luckily no winch is expected for me in the future.

Seems like most people drill a hole at the end of the crack to prevent it from getting worse. Would it also be wise to add a few tack welds along the length of the crack?

 

Anybody?? I have the same problem going to reinforce with sheet metal and weld it

 

Folks do similar to this. Drilling might prove to be a short remedy, but more reinforcement the better. I keep waiting for mine to start cracking, but I will likely start tubing mine to prevent this in the long run due to desert driving.

I know I shouldn't revive this one but I am reinforcing a new core support in that area and others with 3/16" hot rolled (easier to bend) to protect the ends of the sheet metal from cracking to begin with.
