I just got done doing my transmission fluid change on my 2002 2.7 4wd Tacoma. I tried to remove the dipstick tube to make it easier and when putting it back on i lost the upper bolt that threads into the head. It has a 12mm head on it not sure what sixe the threads are does anyone know?

Oof, that bolt is a pain in the ass to get into place due to the dipstick tube wanting to "twist" as you put it into the drain pan.

Any chance it just fell and it's sitting on your lower control arm or subframe?

I dropped it like 5-6 times before I finally got it threaded on; scraped up my arm in the process.

I was trying to thread it in with a deep socket on a 6" extension and it somehow slipped and i never heard it hit the ground but i cant find it sitting anywhere on the truck either i think it's in another dimension now.

Just fish around; like I said mine fell and landed on the lower control arm once, on the skid plate, and a few other places.

It only hit the ground when I felt around with my hand and accidently pushed it over.

By the way, tag or quote someone if you're wanting to notify someone of a reply or something.

Almost every bolt on the truck is either M8x1.25 or M6x1.0.

Could also fall onto the steering rack, front diff, sub frame, or the skid plate as well.

M8x1.25 I would guess length to be 20 to 25 mm

So nice to have a bolt bin and not worry about all the bolts and nuts I drop

Well for the benefit of anyone looking for information on the 1st gen Tacoma oil filler tube bracket bolt here it is:
2003 Tacoma Prerunner V3.4 access cab,
transmission filler tube bracket bolt 91651-40816
    replaced by Replaced by 90080-11229

    Info from link below:
    https://toyota-usa.epc-data.com/tacoma/vzn195l/3282/chassis/3503/?full

Now it turns out that when I tried to remove this bolt the head broke off as the shank had seized. But I still had part of the bolt & washer. The wrench size for the head is M12. The bolt is actually an M7 (not an m8 as claimed above).
The spec is M7-1-13. Not precisley sure of length but its close to 13 mm. I will measure it when I receive it and edit this post.

Here is the bolt with some images on the the amayama website.
