I bought replacement tail lights because one of mine was cracked and I’m replacing the bulbs using the old ones and everything fit except the turn signal bulb which seems to have a different housing. Does anyone know if I need to get an adapter or if I am missing something? The black housing is the old one and it looks like it should fit in the grey but it is loose and won’t snap in

Not sure why they are different other than being wrong or cheap china knockoffs but in any case the replacement socket looks like it's for a 1156 bulb.

That grey socket definitely takes an old school "press in and twist" style bulb. A single filament would be an 1156 and a dual filament would be an 1157. The automotive industry has moved away from them (many years ago) because they were such a pain to use, and corrosion was a big problem. I can only assume you picked up some inexpensive Chinese units and for whatever reason, they decided to use ancient technology.

Ya, thank you it was a 1156, it’s my beater truck and I got the tail lights for $10 from this guy I know so I just need them to function I didn’t really care if they were cheap or not just needed functional ones that weren’t cracked
