When I see projects like this, I recognize the possible convenience potential, but.....

I appreciate my acceptance to live within the limits of simplicity.

I hear you! I'm not a fan myself either, but I am an equal opportunity kind of guy and am willing to test drive a few different kind of models for joyrides.......

 

Something like this is actually pretty darn simple. It's when you start getting into multiple panels and batteries and such that it can become somewhat complicated. But even then you have YouTube and more than enough people on there to show you how it's done.

Edit this to add, honestly if you live on an older piece of property, or for any reason have buildings on that property that are without electricity, and running electricity to that building would be beyond ones budget, this would be a pretty easy and cost-effective method of solving that problem. If all you're wanting to do is run some lights you're looking at probably less than three to $400. Even if you're wanting to run some power tools, short of a welder or such, you wouldn't be breaking the bank. I texted some pictures to a guy I used to work with and he replied "I thought you were anti-solar". And I am when it comes to powering a city or a country, but it definitely has its place.

Another one since it’s Saturday

 

Tractor died . . .
So yesterday it was running fine. Moved some 5' logs around in the bucket during the day, used the grinder for about 90 minutes in the early evening on two 6" diameter stumps and a number of smaller "hedges" stumps (wild privet). Also took two passes on the wild cherry stump that I had ground previously, to get it a little below grade. Doing that the grinder did find an 18" piece of what may have been 1/4" rebar (if there is such a thing). All was still fine with the tractor up until I finished for the evening.
Now this morning when I went out to raise the grinder so I could inspect the teeth... I turn the key and I hear the normal ?fuel pump? sound, the instruments come to life, but the nothing when I turn the key to crank. I figure dead battery, so I grabbed my

Noco GB70 and hooked it up.. but still nothing. I cleaned the already clean & shiny battery terminals, and checked the 20 amp "E/G ECU" and the 5 amp "Starter Relay" fuses. I briefly tried to remove the 40 amp and 50 amp fuses located near the battery positive terminal, but I'm not familiar with how those snap into place.. they didn't want to come out easily.
Everything else electrical seems to work. When I turn everything electrical on and then try the key to start, nothing dims at all.. it's like if I didn't even turn the key.
Anybody know how those 2 fuses come out? Or have a good idea of what to look for first?

 

It’s not still in gear is it?

 

It's hydrostatic. You push the front part of the accelerator pedal to travel fwd, push the rear part of the pedal to reverse.

 

That’s called a tredle pedal. Is there a high/neutral/low gear shifter for it?
I have hydrostatic too but it has to be in neutral to start. The neutral safety switch is frequently the culprit for a non start also. But I don’t even know what tractor you’re running. I’m guessing a Kubota with that pedal

 

Kubota L3901. It has a L-N-M-N-H lever. It's always started in any gear position as long as the tredle pedal was centered, but I'll try putting it in one of the "N" positions when I go out later this morning.

 

I wonder if he let out the obligatory " That ain't goin' no-wheres' after he tightened the strap?
