When it's jacked your insurance may not want to play nice. And you'll certainly become station house chatter......

I live outside of the city. So when I go into town, a lot of times I have my German Shepherd with me (it would take half hour or so to drive him home then half hour to drive back into the city)
I often want to grab some groceries on the way, but I have my pup with me, and don’t want to leave him in the truck with no A/C on

in my old car, I could just leave the car running and lock it while I go in the store, but the new Tacos, you cannot do this it seems

Ya you have to lock the door while sitting inside then get out of your door by just pulling the handle then locking the door with a key manually from the outside. If you don't do it in that order it wouldn't work

I see so many cars and trucks jacked like this. Hell, one dude went into a Burger King leaving his Maserati running, thought it safe he had the fob. Homeless lady took it for a ride to the Price Chopper down the highway!

You could use a coded alarm. Clifford would have been ideal but they’re no more. Maybe code alarm but I don’t know it’s capabilities.

In Washington state, I've heard they call those vehicles "steamers." That's in the land across the border.
How long does it take to run into the store and back?
I proved to myself today that it only takes about ten minutes to install the screen protech-tors on the dash gauges, working slowly to remove bubbles... <G>

It's easy with some vehicles. Not sure how to do it with your Tacoma. My 07 simply will not lock the doors if the engine is running. There is probably a way to program it so that it will but I don't have a need so I've never explored it.

I have several K-9 officer friends who leave their vehicles running with AC or heat on depending on the season for hours at a time. There may be other good reasons.

I think locking the door by hand with a spare key is the best option, and if you have a German Shepherd in the truck, I wouldn't worry very much about anyone trying to take it.

Just leave your dog at home when you know you’ll be making store stops. What you are doing is just a very bad idea. Some nut job could steal your car and dog. Or someone could hurt your dog and steal the car. Or someone could let your dog out of the car and steal it while your dog wanders around in traffic and maybe gets hit by a car. Just leave your canine friend at home when you know you’ll be stopping at store, for your dogs sake.

I'm in a small, quiet town, it's against the law to leave the keys in the car in a public place.
