So I was driving to work yesterday and out of absolutely no where I heard something hitting my radiator fan. After pulling over, I removed the culprit which was the lower radiator fan shroud thing. [IMG]
It broke a couple inches below one of the mounts and bent in enough to tap the fan. In a hurry to get to work on time, I pulled the part off and lost one of the clips. I was able to save one, and my question is when I buy the part off ebay will it include the clips? Or how can I figure out where to buy another clip? Thank you for any helpupload_2016-6-6_14-6-57.jpg

I've driven 300,000 miles without one. Your description is why mine was never reinstalled.

So should I not worry about replacing it? Didnt feel vital which was why I was okay with just taking it off in the first place..

Its not needed. Don't worry about it. Ive had 3 first gen Tacoma and non have that part.

When I change radiators, that part gets tossed.

Run without it for a while and watch your engine temperature gauge. If it starts running hotter, then replace it. You should be able to get a clip like that from any rear-wheel drive Toyota at a local pick-n-pull.

That's not going to work with the factory temp gauge. The factory gauge is very dumb.

I've run my Tacoma for 5-6 years with no fan shroud.... never had an issue. It's a 2.4L 5 lug Tacoma though... I also had a 22re in an 87 4runner that I wheeled pretty hard and it didn't have a shroud ... never a problem either...

I wouldn't worry about it, I still have mine and wouldn't get rid of it because I don't leave stuff off just because.

if you drive in "extreme" heat then it might be something you want to put back on but 99% of people can do without it.

in most cases things don't have negative side effects from leaving them off but as one example of what "not to do" is people with v6 will remove the support bracket for the upper intake manifold to replace the plugs and not reinstall it because there seams to be no earthly reason why its there and in your way. but often in "some" cases it will allow vibration to cause the intake to crack without having that bracket there to support it. so that's why I never remove stuff "just for the hell of it" because "sometimes" it can matter if its not reinstalled, but this doesn't apply to the lower radiator shroud thing

My fan was hitting off my radiator shroud on my 2006 when I was doing some wheeling. I got under it and looked at the engine mounts and saw that the frame had broke around the motor mounts causing my engine to sit lower and hit the shroud. So basically if you hear a noise don't take the easy way out and take off plastic, have it looked at to make sure it's not a major problem.
