First off, I have the 8" poverty screen.

When I have the list of Sirius favorites up on the left, half the time the display shows the station description under the station name. The other half the time it shows the artist being played on that station. Cannot seem to figure out how/why this is set, or if it can be set, or why it sometimes shows one vs the other?

I know this is a long shot, but the manual briefly makes mention of Sirius 360L. This is a feature where you can access additional Sirius channels over the car's data subscription. My previous Subaru actually had support for this, and I loved Rock Bar on channel 713. Using the scroll arrows it won't go that high on the Tacoma. Is there a direct channel entry where you can type in the channel number just to try it? I looked through the infotainment manual and couldn't see a way to do this.

Finally, I followed the instructions in the manual and went to the Toyota software update site. Entered my VIN then it says to do this:

    • Insert the USB flash drive into the USB port on the vehicle as shown
    • Touch [[IMG]] the main menu of your Vehicle’s Audio Multimedia System.
    • Touch [Software Update] opens a dialogon the submenu.
    • Touch [Output info to USB memory].
    • Touch [OK] when download is complete. It is now safe to remove the USB flash drive.
Except when I do this, there is no "Output info to USB memory" option with a thumb drive connected. Has this actually worked for anyone, even if there aren't any updates it should write some vehicle info to the drive that you can then use to verify there is or is not any updates.

    Thanks!

I can’t speak to what the update site you found does, but I do know that 360L is not supported.

That's a bummer. I miss that from my Outback :( Guess I can always stream it if I want, but it was convenient just having it as a preset along with all the other channels.

This section in the manual gave me hope:

Certain features and/or content may not be available in vehicles with SiriusXM with 360L unless an active data connection is enabled in the vehicle.

Check out pages 72+ in your multimedia manual. It will cover over the air updates. If one does not pop up then there is not one available.

    Thanks.

The way I read that is you could write the vehicle data to USB and then go to the computer and use that to upload your specific vehicle config. Then it would let you d/l any updates if available. Like if you don't have a way to d/l it OTA, the USB stick was a fallback method. But maybe it only shows the "Output to USB Memory" if it can confirm OTA somehow that there is one first.

I am going to assume so...I got the 14" and no way to output to a USB drive.

You don't have the USB-C connector on the side of your display like the poverty spec ones have? Thought both sizes had one on the right side of the screen behind the bezel. That's where mine is anyway.

Manual says the 14" has the same connector.

Easy to miss if you just sit in the driver seat.

That's a strange place to have that port. Fine for a passenger. A pain for the driver.

I would like to delete SiriusXM from my audio menu. Any way to accomplish this? Or is it hard-coded... Unacceptable to me Toyota forced this on its customers. They must be getting a large monetary kickback.

I have it, but still does not give me the option to download the settings to a USB drive even when my USB stick is plugged in.

OK thanks for checking. Our 2024 Honda CRV has a similar setup, they tell you go upload your vehicle data to the USB stick, then upload it on your computer to see if there's any updates.

I guess if vehicle itself says there aren't any, no point in checking just was curious if it worked like the Honda or not. The manual isn't exactly clear.

So I tried a bunch of USB drives, finally got it to work with an old USB 2.0 16GB one! It does enable the option to output a config file to USB. I did make sure every one of the USB drives I tried was formatted FAT32. In fact I freshly formatted all of them. I tried sizes ranging from 2GB to 128GB, native USB-C drives and via multiple USB-C to USB-A adapters.

The only one I could get it recognize was this old USB 2.0 16GB drive. It also only worked with one of my USB-C to USB-A adapters, it seems VERY picky about what it will accept.

Once it wrote the JSON file, I went back to https://www.toyota.com/firmware-updates, and uploaded the firmware. It came back and said "Your Vehicle's Audio Multimedia System has the latest update".

So this feature can work, but it's very picky about the USB drive. I noticed when I went to "Sources" most of the USB drives didn't even show up, but when I plugged in this very old USB 2.0 drive (via a USB-C adapter) it showed it as an available source and also the "Output info to USB memory" option enabled in the Software Update screen.

But at least now I can double-check on the Toyota site once in a while for updates if I want to. I swear my screen didn't look this filthy when I took the pictures, but I was so shocked it worked I just grabbed a few pics :)
