Dumb Question: Can 3RZ leak oil with flywheel removed?

So here's a dumb question for you:

Can a 3RZ (or any motor for that matter) leak oil from the rear of the motor if the flywheel is removed?

I picked up a used 3RZ I'm very slowly prepping for install, along with the truck it's going in. The seller told me they went through everything, including a new rear main seal, and I've got every reason to believe them. The motor is complete but the flywheel is stripped off and in a separate box. When I went to move the motor onto an engine stand the other day and while tipping it back towards the rear of the motor, a fair amount of oil leaked out from the back. Is that normal? Should I go through the trouble of replacing the rear main seal?

Yes, the ring gear bolts actually seal oil, its part of why you use loctite on the bolts.

Also you should replace the rear main, its way easier now than if you install the engine and it starts to leak.

Perfect. Thanks for the info. I was hoping that was the case. I've got new Toyota bolts on the way and see those come prepped with red Loctite. I'll see if my local dealer has a new rear main.

EVERYTIME you can see the rear main seal
    RR the seal.
