I am looking to install a second head unit which will be totally dedicated to music while the OEM head unit remains for vehicle information and phone use. Has anyone here installed a head unit in the armrest or in the phone charging area in the center console? I would use the OEM dash location for the speaker as I have pod mounted 3.5' mids and the dash location are not used.

So let me get this straight, you're going to use 2 separate head units in tandem?
Music will be playing through a different set of speakers than the speakers used for your phone/ other purposes?
    Did i read that correctly?

I would have the OEM head unit wired to the dash speakers so that I have cell phone audio through those...All of my other speakers (10 total) would be used for music. I am thing of placing the second head unit in the arm rest storage bin or in the phone charging area which I will modify. The other way of me doing this would be to use my DAP directly to the DSP via cable or bluetooth. This would dedicate the player to music only while the OEM head unit operates the dash speakers for phone call and navigation. Right now I do not have any speakers in the dash location. Just wondering if anyone here has installed a head unit in these location.

i'm running a single din head unit, so i have space to run two. at one point i was going to. technically, i do have two installed-- a pioneer, and one of the ooold sony flip-face decks, that i lost the wiring harness to a decade ago.

but frankly, i just don't see a point to it. adding a second creates double the problems for the same solution. and part of the reason for me to go to a single din was for operational simplicity and audio quality.

I'm curious why you'd want a second HU? I would just use the DAP to DSP option you mentioned. Much less complicated.
