I went down that same road.
If I'm going to fix something I want to do it right, especially if it is for someone else.
Sounds like a nice plan doesn't it?

Of course you bury yourself in just the parts and there isn't any margin left for your time or (gasp) a profit.

And then along come the customers who don't want to pay for anything. :annoyed:

I did have one time that I had a machine fixed up nice with the potential for some good money to be made -- and made the mistake of mentioning it to a friend...

...who needed it because he was in a tough spot...

...at a good guy price...

...and could he make payments... :(

    ...very small payments...

...over a long period of time... :ballchain:

    :bananadead:

for most people close to me, i rarely ask for money back. if anyone i knew actually needed it, spending the $200 in parts really isn't anything to me in the big picture. it's a unique project/departure from my normal projects, and i'd be happy to help them out. for a lot of people, $200 is a nice weekend out with the wife. i like to spend it instead on things people i know need.

for most people close to me like that, they'll already end up repaying me in some other way-- meals, physical labor, etc.

but i've also learned that once ANY money is involved in any transaction, there's a demand of quality that goes with it. it doesn't matter if i fully repair both and sell them for $10. if the 'buyer' can't mow their lawn for a full month with them, i'll be hearing about it, needing to offer a refund, and likely face public humiliation(LOCAL MAN SELLS DAMAGED LAWN MOWER).

and that level of hassle is what makes scrapping them the unfortunate best case scenario.

Morning all. Friday is entirely too close to Monday for my liking. I'd like it to be more like how far Monday is from friday

That's what my buddy who retired from Mac recently told me, he said my biggest problem is figuring out what day it is because I have no where to be.

Probably not necessary. When you’re old enough to retire you typically have a pill box

We stopped by the Cali neighbors yesterday and gave her some bread my wife made. She walked over to my window and said let me ask you something, those things with the 2 handles for post, are they for putting them in or pulling them up? I said putting them in, she said can't you just use a hammer? Cole said "I've seen dad use a rock before cause that was the closest thing he had"

I thought, if she knows how to do it why is she asking me. Then it dawned on me, she's fishing and hoping I say I can do it.

I was born at night but it wasn't last night :D
