Something the size of a gen 1 would be nice. Toyota keeps shifting the trucks larger, probably to save on tooling changes overall.

just a couple of things tbh
i wouldnt say the utility is severely compromised on the mav. for how small it is if you get the tow package it can tow 4k lbs which for any full size truck thats nothing but for such a small little thing thats pretty darn good. shoot the first gen tacoma could only tow what? 5k? and the 2nd gen could do 6500? so for as small as it is to be rated at 4k thats not bad.

we currently have a 2025 on order for the gf should be in within 2ish months? maybe longer who knows lol.

May 2025 Toyota sold 26,504 Tacomas Toyota will not be selling any other pick up truck, or pick up type vehicle in the US anytime soon. Toyota has zero reason to enter this space. GAF Tundra will be in it's 5th year of production, and GAF Tacoma will on its 3rd. I have no Idea if Toyota MPV is available yet or not on the global scale. I think it's safe to say... this ain't gona happen!

I need to replace my Tacoma with a bigger tow vehicle. I'd purchase a mini truck by Toyota in a second to become my new daily driver, as long as I can fit my dirt bike in the back. Bring back a first gen Tacoma, and I'd be on it like a fat kid on a jelly doughnut.

Fair enough -- yes, I may have been too extreme there, but there are definitely compromises. Not too many for most people, but I'm also the guy who refuses to buy anything shorter than a 6' bed.

I seriously took a look at the Maverick and the Ranger before committing to the Tacoma. Still think it is an awesome vehicle that should unfortunately be priced closer to when it was introduced. Not that they need to do that to sell 'em!

Haha yup! After having one 6ft bed I can't go back anymore! But I also went full size and got an f150 since I needed the payload and towing.

The little Mav wouldn't work for me but works perfectly for my gf and many others that just don't need a truck full time.

The modern Taco won't get any bigger, according to a story I read, because it's at max size to fit in like 90% of American garages right now. Any bigger and it won't fit.

But here's a small pickup headed to market soon: Same size as an '85 pickup. Costomizable as pickup SUV, and more.

Questionable reliability at best. No different from the manufacturers in existence today, bottom dollar parts and who would assemble them? Replacement parts to fix anything, good luck with that as their goal will be production and not customer service. The more custom you govwith a build the longer you are going to wait for it. No one should rely on a start up as their primary source of personal transportation.

I like the look of the slate
One gripe I have with most trucks in general is that they don't make the square body styles anymore
Loved the old Chevys and fords, even the square s10 and ranger
I used to have a muscle car and always a small truck to do side work
The small trucks were great, no frills looked good, easy to maintain

4G looks like an athletic shoe compared to trucks from 30 - 40 years ago.

i'm carefully watching this, as well as alpha automotive's wolf truck.

the slate has an obscene timeline that i just don't see them hitting. they're going to go through the entire federalization/legalization/DOT/ safety process, while also upfitting an entire paper factory into a car factory, and still promising to ship the first product in 1.5 years--currently, they're promising first deliveries in late 2026.

most auto makers take a minimum 5 years just get get through the legal/DOT/safety stuff. and most automakers with existing factories that are re-tooling for a new model can generally take 1-2 years just to re-tool that existing factory that many of the tooling is re-used in. this is an entirely brand new design, with brand new molds, brand new processes, and brand new certifications. they didn't even have a factory location picked out until a few weeks after the initial design release.

if slate can pull it off, i'll be absolutely floored, and they'll set a nearly untouchable global design-to-production speed record. i also wouldn't park within a block of the first 2 years of whatever comes off that line...

alpha has been radio-silent for the most part since the initial release. there's not even an idea on when the vehicle will enter production, or even any official pricing, or trim details.
