I have a base model Tacoma so it doesn’t have the fogs and I very much seem to need them with the current weather lately.

I’m wondering where to get them? And what I should do about installing them?

I’ve noticed most of the big brands don’t come with all the wiring and the switches you’d need and instead are just drop in replacements.

I’m very new to working on the truck myself so is this something I could do myself reasonably or should I go to a mechanic or a dealer?

Fogs are a good intro to wiring. If one is interested in learning, it's a rewarding way to get into working on the truck.

There are many ways to approach it. You can install an aftermarket switch, an aftermarket switch that fits in a stock dashboard slot, or you can replace the turn stalk with one that has the OEM fog switch on it. There are writeups on here for these things.

Morimoto XBs are a decent budget level light, diode dynamics or BD have the high quality fogs.

    Good luck.

Very doable yourself with some basic knowledge about electronics. You'll need a switch, relay, and an add-a-fuse or two. The switch can be oem style used or ch4x4, a rocker from otrattw, or any other switch you want to fit in. You can get relays that mount anywhere inside your engine bay from just about anywhere, just make sure it's rated for the amps your lights will use and that it's continuous duty. You can get an add-a-fuse anywhere, which will let you draw power from an accessory fuse slot. I can explain the wiring too, but you'll find plenty of info on how to wire a relay and where to put your add-a-fuse with a bit of research.
