Soooo I hydro locked my engine and I want to put the same 4.0L back into my TRD Pro. From what I have found, it seems like any 4.0L V6 engine (1GR-FE) will work from any other 2005-2011 tacoma with some components being brought over from the engine I just ruined.
I also found that with more work, the:
    2005-2011 4runners work
and possibly the 2012-2015 tacos with even more work?

I've taken apart engines before and done my work but I haven't swapped between years.
    Any help here works

The Tacoma 4.0L is identical 05-11, 12-15 have ports in the heads for the SAIS which have to be plugged to use on an 05-11 (or use manifolds & gaskets from a 12-15 with block off plates).

4th generation (~02-~09) 4runner 4.0s will work but the early ones (02 to somewhere around 05) have different VVT sprockets & cam sensors and will not work without swapping those.

The 4.0 in the 07-09 FJ Cruiser is also the same.

The dual VVT variant of the 4.0L found in the 2010-14 FJ and 5th generation (~09-24) 4Runner are not the same and will not work in a Tacoma.
