question for those with tank bags.

i would like to get one with a true bolt on mount to the gas tank section so it comes off easily.

but was trying to find it locally so i could grab it and use it this weekend since we will be using the tracer to do a 2.5 hour trip both ways. i found a ogio m1 tank bag at cycle gear in stock plus a plastic mount for a yamaha but according to the site its unsure if it would work on the tracer?
    upload_2025-6-11_10-52-33.png
i also found a bilt v3 mini tank bag that uses magnets but that one im unsure how well it will actually hold to the tank? plus i know bilt as a company is just kinda meh??

so wondering if these brands are even worth the time or if i should look elsewhere?

this is all of the ones at the store in stockupload_2025-6-11_10-53-7.png
still looking to see what other stores around here even have something like this.

Never heard of anyone losing a tank bag that uses magnets.

But magnets can/will catch metal debris if removed/put back on id imagine. Same as my airpod cases do.

I've used both the magnet ones and ones with straps. never had any issues. if you are doing heavy off-road I could see the magnet ones potentially being an issue but on road ive never had one more.

giant loop also makes one that zips on and off @Tigerian has one

thats a good point on the mags grabbing debris and such.
thanks for the input! ive never had one so i have no clue lol. there is a small chance of rain for saturday and since my phone will be a gps id rather it not be on the handle bars. plus more storage is nice lol.

if i get one now thats cheaper i can always give it to the gf for her little bike and get a quick releases style i want lol

I've been using tank bags on almost every bike I've owned dating back to 1985. I've had the strap on bags, magnetic bags, and the kind that mount to a ring around the gas cap. Most reliable and easy to use has been the magnetic. If you're really worried about scratching your pain just put some pieces of painters tape where the magnets will hit and that issue is solved. Here's what I'm currently using:

    https://www.nelsonrigg.com/motorcyc...-bags/cl-1100s-commuter-sport-tank-bag-detail

I got lucky and picked mine up at a swap meet about 2 years ago. Brand new with the tags still on it and I got it for $25! I literally stole it. Doesn't move, easy to use, even when in motion you can unzip it and reach inside with one hand. Map pocket on top is nice for keeping notes inside or even an old school paper map. Best feature of all and the only tank bag I've owned to have it is this, the rain cover had elastic staps that when you put it on the magnetic flaps slide through so the rain cover doesn't get air underneath and want to blow off at speed. This bag has pass through for a hydration hose if so inclined.I use that to pass through the cable to charge my Sena headset if needed on long trips. If you need I can take some pics and send you after work or can post them here. Let me know. Oh, almost forgot. This bag expands with a zipper at the base that allows it to get about 2-3 inches taller. Never even used that feature yet myself.

thanks! me and my friends i know that ride dont really use tank bags (well minus one friend and he only uses strap on style ones) so i know nothing of them! i never thought about the painters tape to keep it from scratching it thats a good idea.

thats a nice tank bag i reserved the smaller one at cycle gear to at least check it out and see if i like it or not. thats wild yours has a hydration hose lol never seen that before!

No problem, glad to enable....I mean help.

First time I ever used one was a friend let me borrow his for a weekend. I think you either take to it right away or just can't ever really get used to it. I took to it right away and bought my own the next week. The strap types work well enough but the straps stretch from use and if you have it tight enough when you first start out you might need to loosen it up to remove when you fuel up then readjust later. The only kind I can use on my Buell is the strap type as that tank is fiberglass. The magnetic mounts I just find more forgiving. Make sure you adjust it far enough back to clear the handlebars and switches at full lock. I've blown the horn more than once by accident. One bit of advice is, try to figure out what you PLAN on carrying in the tank bag then add 50% more space as you'll find yourself putting things in there more than you think.

I had a mosko moto nomax tank bank for a while that had a 2 liter water bladder in it. That was amazing to have water on long rides without wearing a backpack bladder. It was a strap system and kind of a PITA to clip on and off, though.

I sold it, because I never really put much in there aside from the water bladder. I swapped to a mosko moto gnat handlebar bag and love it.

ill take a look into it thanks! atm needing something for the weekend so wont be able to do it atm lol
haha no you meant enable lets be truthful now haha

ya i plan to try the cheap one and if i like it ill upgrade and get a nicer one and let my gf have the cheaper one since she has been wanting a way to hold stuff other then having a backpack. i do love the idea of the bladder thou! im always getting thirsty so i normally have my water bladder when ridding my dirtbike.
ya thats what ive been reading about the clip style is they are a pain at times but dont move at all.

i have looked at the handlebar bag for the tracer but i saw a photo of it and it blocks the dash pretty badly on the tracer so wont be doing that one sadly!

Impressive to install that insert backwards and not notice. Been using Amsoil Metric on my bike, seems good enough. Might try a switch to the Dirt variant and see if the clutch feels better / grabbier.

Shell Rotella full Synthetic T6 15w-40 Jaso MA/MA2 certified. Higher sheer strength than the Synthetic T6 5W-40, there is also T4 conventional 15W-40.... those two are also JASO MA/MA2 spec.

What's a pain about them? You planning to take it on and off constantly? I really like how my Tusk Olympus tank bag fits my rig. To fuel up I just undo the two lower clips and swing it outta the way. I never take it off my bike though. However, if I did, the straps on the bike side are outta the way.

Edit to add: Hard to see, but you can see the clip right at the front corner of the seat. The other clips are behind the handlebar/around frame up front where you won't even seen them.

All this talk about tank bags. I have a Marsee who is out of business now. I love that magnetic tank bag, had it since the late 90's. Since I started riding again and was looking for a decent one to replace mine because of ware and tear. I actually found 1 on eBay the exact one I have for $20.00. Fits perfectly on my tank.IMG_20250601_131331803_HDR.jpg

Hells ya man! Always great to find something you like again!

Do you prefer the mag ones?
Ya I will take it on and off. I don't run around with all my side cases or top case. So it would come off and on. Plus I'm not a big fan of the look on the strap ones just for the fact of the straps lol.

Didn’t look too hard. I did email Cycle Gear this afternoon asking if others have inquired and what they have found to be a great seller
