I think your next step should be a GX 550 OVERTRAIL :)

Just a heads-up that the MTZ appears to be discontinued, so probably something to be mindful of. I am going with the Baja Boss A/Ts personally [35x12.5r17 D rated] -- they're 2 lbs lighter per tire than the E rated ones, 3PMS rated, well made.

Clearancing for 35s is a headache. Anyone who says they're not rubbing with 35s is limiting travel, so you'll have to decide if the added inch of clearance underneath is worth limiting your suspension travel. On the Tacos its easy in the rear [until you're getting to frame-notch levels of uptravel], but a headache in the front. Realistically you should be tubbing your cab and cutting your inner fenders up front to get full travel, especially at stock width.

To fit 35s without limiting your shock travel, you will need to cut your outer fenders [or run fiberglass], cut your inner fenders and custom build them or run a tube chassis up front, and tub your firewall/cabin area. Most of the time, you're gonna want to be running a forward LCA or LCA pivot system that shifts the LCA points forward to eek out a bit more clearance from the cab.

Since you've got the wagon, I think you're gonna run into issues in the rear with your rear doors and rear quarterpanel requiring some serious love with the hammer. Are you running a relocate in the rear for your shocks? I think that'd be worthwhile to look into first, especially with some longer links to push the axle aft just a bit for better clearance around the door with wheel travel.

That being said, 35s are neat. I'm allowing myself to be talked into 37s I think, but the winter plan for the truck is to cage it and have some fun. Spent some time in CAD and built a cantilever rear suspension so I can keep the bed intact [hopefully] and rip some links.

I don't know how much overlap there is to the 4Runner from the Tacoma. I cut. I cut again. guess what? I cut again. The Body mount is/was a PIA and I still don't have as much as I want-37's won't fit. As such I am looking at LCA's that move things forward. The rear was easy... Ute! Did a lot of cutting there too when it was the bed version. You are going to have to commit to some cutting. I had to make my own inner liners-and that still needs some work as the mud up the air intake is concerning. Not really a snorkel guy but may go to cowl induction.

Reliability has been fantastic. Uni Balls are stronger but don't last as long so that is just a cost of doing business. My rack is leaking a bit. When it dies I will go Tundra. Tires have worn amazing! I have the alignment jacked for clearance and the toe set by me. Tracks straight with no real weird wandering / bump steer madness. I did all the gusset work underneath and seems to help-not sure I would know at this point. I also did the big brake conversion using 4 Runner calipers and rotors-you already have that done.

35's are a commitment, and I don't feel that it easy to go back if you change your mind. That said they have not adversely impacted the usability of my rig. I tow. I carry stuff. I swim and mud it. Still rubs. But it looks freek'in cool.

Same, tbh. I like that it still looks like an otherwise 'normal' truck right now.

I'm also not sure if I could built a rear tray that's lighter than the current setup. maybe? That would be cool, to run factory style bedsides [factory metal or fiberglass] and a custom tray inside.

    hmmmmm dang it

I think it was the old MTZ P3 that was discontinued. The Baja Legend MTZ was released about 3 years ago. It's a very similar looking tire.

Thanks for all of the insight. I'll have to dig deeper into the 4Runner VS Tacoma aspect. All of the extra work involved could be enough to keep me in 295's.

Much appreciated! I'll definitely have my work cut out for me if I decide to go ahead with it.

The damage is done. An aluminum bedbox would be dope and so much lighter. Uh oh

I'll definitely have to check his builds out. There's another thread over there with some helpful information, as well. I just like running things by this crew because I know I'll get a lot of good information.

This is the kind of advice I come here for. :D

To add to the good advice you already got. I would also add some sort of LCA mount bracing, or at the very least reinforcement of the allignment cam tabs.

Buy a box of cutoff wheels and Sawzall blades and get after it. You'll be happy you did :)

The cutting isn't so bad once you get going lol
I'm going to cut half the front away to fit the 40s for 1 or 2 likes...

    NEWS FLASH!!!

Dan's wife, Mary just called. Dan's surgery was a success!! The repair went well, no need for valve replacement. The surgery ran a little longer than expected, but she is waiting for him to show up in ICU for recovery. She asked (well, Dan requested that she ask someone) if I'd post up for her. How could anyone say no?

So, I guess we're going to be 'stuck with him' a bit longer...
