I found a new 2024 TRD OR upgrade, not premium, that was for sale at Universal Toyota in Texas. I called and was sent this.. $72,420. Oh, but it was on sale for $67,999..(my local dealer has the same truck listed for $45,000)

There are so many reasons to be upset about this one. Especially when a week ago the truck was shown stock and today it has a lift they installed. The kicker is I asked a salesman and sales manager what kind and brand of lift it is and they couldn’t even tell me. And the $5,000 market adjustment..? That should be $5,000 off retail because it’s a damn 2024. I can buy a 2026 soon.

I don’t typically call out places like this publicly but it’s dealerships like this that keep prices so high.

I don’t understand your point. It’s $72k due to aftermarket add ons. If you’re a guy that only keeps a truck stock then look for a stock OR at the standard price at another dealership? My 2025 trd off road was $57k msrp and I purchased it for $52k. Since I purchased it back in March of this year I’ve added close to $6,000 worth of aftermarket or add ons on my truck so essentially my truck could be stickered at $63,000.

I don't know why a dealership upcharge on dealer installed parts would upset anyone. If you don't like the price, just move on to the next one........

Are you actually shopping for a truck halfway across the country that could be found locally or just wanting to be outraged by something that has no impact on you?

There are currently 48 TRD OR Upgrade package trucks within 50 miles of Nazareth PA, advertised as much as $3k below TSRP before you even start negotiating.

Why would you be concerned about a slimy dealer 1700 miles distant? What are these "so many reasons"?

Sounds to me like more 3rd gen owners trying to bash 4th gen trucks because they can’t buy one.

All those dealer add ons and it probably still has an open recall for the rear brake lines. Maybe that guy who didn't like his Rivian after he got it and was going back to a Toyota would buy it.

I have a stealership chain here that marks up Raptors at least 10K, and Corvettes much higher than that. Just boycott them like I do and move on to less slimy places.

I'm definitely in the roll eyes or face palm crowd on the price complaints. My purchase was a while ago, but little to nothing seems changed now.

The closest dealer to me has never been where you go for bargains, and they've always welcomed warranty and service work if you buy elsewhere. That's same all over. Toyota's own and other sales tools make it easy to find in stock and incoming vehicles to suit one's interests or needs.

For some purchases I've just politely pointed out to the dealer a 30-150 mile drive to a more competitive dealer is a big payoff - a paid hundreds or thousands of dollars per hour task. Sometimes they match. There are dealers who purposely compete with some who go for more margin in their new sales price, and often they do better with trade value. For my 4th gen I found one 45 mi from home with a not overly advertised niche of beating the bigger city dealers. They had a $2000 discount on the sticker and were $1800 better for the offer on my 2015 Toyota.

While same sorts of gripes in this thread were going on, all I had to do was wait for an incoming vehicle to arrive, drive 45 miles instead of 4, and net $4800 savings. A friend shopping for minivans just found same thing. $4800 for 1.5 hours of driving is a good wage.

I just ceramic tinted my 2 side windows for $240. I agree $2000 is excessive but all that is not $50. By the way this is how dealers make money off accessories and packages. Not by selling the car.

Another good point is good luck getting financed on a truck that has a MSRP of $53,626 and trying to carry an extra ~$19,000. Even if a lender does 130% of MSRP you're still a few grand shy of lending.

I paid $30k for my 2017 back in the day. No way I could afford today’s prices (or at least justify the purchase)

FWIW, CPI Inflation Calculator says that $30k in 2017 is equivalent to $39.4k today, well within basic SR5 territory.

The $40k I paid in 2017 for my TRDOR is equivalent to $53.5k today, which would get a decently equipped TRDOR if I got the same 7% off TSRP.

Finding a truck around South Texas without dealer add-ons is tough. Thanks for putting them on blast.

Went out of state to find ours. Breath of fresh air when our over the phone deal was below TSRP with no dealer add-ons. No fight whatsoever. I normally would haggle a bit but I was so thrown off by their offer that I just said yes and sent them the money.

Dealer add on “upgrades” are the equivalent of liquor and beers at a restaurant. They have high margins
