    Hello. I’m 21TacoGeezer.

Recently replaced 2001 F150 full on SuperCrew (bought it new) with a 2021 Tacoma TRD Off-Road. Lots for me to get familiar with on this new-to-me right-sized tough truck, especially since this is my first 4x4.

Looking to do some housekeeping on this new-to-me vehicle; some are simple, some more challenging.

    To Do list includes:
    • Repair a 1.5 cm split in the center of the driver’s side original seat bottom to keep it from growing, then add some abuse-friendly seat covers. So, I’d like to do this repair myself if feasible. Suggestions on making it effective, durable, and without removing the seat means more to me than to make it look like a high paid plastic surgeon stitched it up. If it turns out good looking, that’s more of a bonus.

    • I want to stymie thieves, or at least make them look for an easier target, who would want to steal a fine looking tailgate. I’ve read about using a stainless steel hose clamp but would want to hear about mods that are perhaps tougher yet straight forward to put on and take off when needed or desired.

    • As others noted, the Tacoma hood is heavier than most others I have opened and I’m looking to upgrade/change out the prop rod method with gas struts. I don’t like to drill on my vehicles and am looking to go to school on those with experience with a no-drill mod.

    • Considering adding towing mirrors ‘cause I have an ancient (1976!) fiberglass 17 foot boat I’ve maintained and use for bass fishing in the desert lakes of AZ. Looking for pin outs and connector part numbers on the stock Gen 3 mirrors so I can match it up to what’s available in the OEM and aftermarket for towing mirrors. I understand that other Toyota lines (Tundra and RAV4) will share some fitment with the Gen 3 mirror mounts. I’m not sure if they share the same multi cavity connectors and harness assignments.
If desired by others, I can share a relatively inexpensive way to get a full-sized key head tailgate key to replace the miniature fob key. It will still have to be router cut by a lock smith. Beyond that, it won’t cost a ton of bucks (under $5.00 and some time) to make a key that a Sasquatch would be able to use. I found big fingers and a tiny fob key are not a great match up.

If folks are interested, I will share that method with the group.

    Glad I found this forum!

Cover King neoprene. Ordering via Costco brought them to my door for about 100 bucks less than CoverKing direct. I did unbolt the seats to strap the bottoms, but did not unplug wiring or remove.

@christian06 has the tailgate security you seek

    Welcome
