I haven't seen anything official yet but the video shows it taking off and getting about 100 feet up in the air before slowly coming back down, like it was landing again, but obviously way beyond the runway and right into a bunch of buildings. Comments saying the flaps weren't down like they should have been so maybe pilot error?

Also apparently there was some Boeing whistleblower last year that claimed the 787s were improperly assembled and warned about crashes. So who knows at this point

I thought that was warning about a mid air break up though iirc. If he really had just forgotten to extend the flaps and slats, that would be an error beyond comprehension.

Yeah it would be hard to believe that both pilots would miss something as fundamental as that. Right now there are all kinds of theories ranging from bird strike to both engines, sudden power loss at the most critical point in takeoff, rapid wind change causing stall, etc. Be curious to see what the official cause was.

I never really had a practice lock... just whatever was around.

My skill level is enough to be confident I can open just about anything in <5mins, but not really enough to brag about and then back it up lol.

Yea maybe wind shear or a microburst could’ve contributed. The 787 has so many advanced safety features to prevent all that, but I imagine it could be hard to recover from if it happened the moment after takeoff.

people always talk about landing being the most nerve wracking part of flying, for me it's takeoff. The sheer level of power needed and maintained to get something so heavy up off the ground and into the air is like giving a big middle finger to the laws of nature and gravity lol. It's the only part of flying that gets my heart rate going a bit.

Remember the KHL team plain that crashed. It was on takeoff and couldn't make enough power to lift the plain. It crashed into the burm at the end of the runway and across a highway.

I do remember that, that was horrible...plane was horribly maintained or something I think? That was the plane Ruslan Salei from the Ducks was on, playing over in Russia during the offseason.

I've been seeing a sweet little Mitsubishi Pajero by my house for a while now, looks like it knows how to party.

Not the actual one but it looks the same as this.

Mine is drifting as well. I just tried spraying compressed air into the joystick to see if it would help but I think I'll have to replay it. The rubber on my cousins controller has started coming off really bad and I just don't understand how it's gotten so bad so fast

We bought two of the series X controllers for Christmas because all I had were the original controllers from my Xbox one when it first came out and both of the new controllers started drifting within a couple months so I bought the elite controller and now it's drifting too. They just don't make them like they used to.

There is a way to recalibrate the controllers and that helped a little bit with mine

    That sucks to hear

Mine looks practically mint with the exception of that rubber shown here

    20250612_122214.jpg

I do only use it for maybe 2-3 specific games but still, it shouldn't be that bad as it's been peeled away for months now

    20250612_122246.jpg

Only use it for GTA5, Forza, and Ghost of Tsushima

It's only what, less than 2 years old now?

I hate console-exclusive games; eventually they make it over to PC (the good ones that is) but that takes a good long while

Can't think of any one one game franchise that does so well it has to remain solely on a single console with the exception of maybe Mario (with their racing and party games)

Even then there are alternatives to that
