Tried to justify my comment at the end there, but that’s usually an indication I just need to mind my business and keep on browsing. Next time!

With the glass break sensor posted above is that to imply my truck doesn’t already have that when I set the alarm?

    All good.

I installed remote starters for almost 15 years. It’s basically just like hot wiring a vehicle. 80 bit encryption keys they were still having trouble cracking some of the codes, but there are many cars that the anti theft codes can be cracked in a matter of seconds without the need for your key at all. Most people don’t even understand how vulnerable their vehicles really are

Faraday bags don’t last if they are leather or fabric. All the ones I used would leak a signal after a few months of use.
I have installed a hidden kill switch and always disable the fob before leaving the truck.
If they still get it, I have insurance.

The push button has an inductive coil that temporarily powers your fob’s RFID chip, that’s how it’s able to read it. The chip itself has no power to it when the fob is turned off. If you take apart the fob and look at the printed circuit board you’ll see the chip that picks up the energy near the battery. It’s the same principle just like a wireless phone charger.

You’re right, some of the early microwave ovens were defective and leaked enough microwave energy to burn people. My friend’s mom had a minor burn on her finger because of it.

I would just install a kill switch and not worry about the key fob. Wire a switch to the brake pedal switch (wont start without the computer seeing it pressed) or the starter remote wire and use a factory style switch for something like the phone charger pad. That way it doesn't stick out and they wont find some odd switch and flip it. Then they can program or hook into it all they want and it won't do anything.

Just get a good faraday bag and put your keys inside when you get home.

Thievery is such a risky occupation, certainly not good for your health.

Unless your life is in danger it's pretty much a criminal offense to go pew-pew to protect only property in any state.
I don't agree or disagree with that statement but it's pretty much a fact.

For sure if it came to that I'd put one in the air first.

Feel free to FAFO but me, I'm not built for prison life.

Yeah I do this too, and it's out of site parked in the garage. But, there's not much you can do if they want it bad enough. But you can deter some thieves.

I lock my remote by holding the lock button down, while pressing the unlock button twice. This deactivates the remote.

I also use the steering wheel lock when I park somewhere when it's out of my site. Sometimes I remember to lock my tailgate, sometimes I don't!

Bay Area here. I keep all my key fobs in a faraday box. These are pretty cheap. I've had prowlers come up and check doors a couple of times and got them on Driveway Ring cam. The Ring cam is only a deterrent with the siren. Police in most coastal cali cities will not respond to burglary calls. Cali Catalytic converter theft law in 2024 has made it much harder for thieves to resell stolen cats, so theft has naturally declined.

We purchased a box 6x8x4 that we put our keys into that blocks the signal. another point is I have purchased 2 wallets for my wife and I that stops credit cards being sniffed (stolen)

I saw one of those clubs in the restaurant parking lot last week. It made me want to find another restaurant, because obviously I had strayed into a less than wholesome neighborhood.

I'm glad I went against that instinct though, because the food was fantastic.

I sat near the window so I could watch the car though.
