Came across a video feed about installing a kill switch.

Car theft is not an issue where I am but I'm just curious in case I make a project out of it.

Here are a few for consideration. I'm sure there are others.

They all look pretty easy to install.

Starterstopper seems to be the most versatile though in that you can ignore their switches but instead use any switch(es) in your vehicle like window button, turn signal, horn, etc. ... you can also do it with specific sequence or combination of pushing the switches.... Very interesting ...

If I were to do it, I'd probably just keep it simple.

    Thoughts?

fuel pump cut is better in my opinion.

a fuel pump cut, you get the noise of the vehicle cranking but not starting. with noise comes an implied deadline. they can't keep cranking it until the battery runs out. they can only crank it for as long as they're not worried they're being watched, which becomes more possible every second the truck doesn't start.

starter cut, there's silence. and silence is time to figure out a way to bypass the problem.

Thanks for posting. The ChrisFix video was well done, and the StarterStopper is an interesting option. Kilmer, however, was like…

Good points soundman98. I was initially favoring one that cuts the power to the starter but your reasons above convinced me that cutting power to the fuel pump is the way to go.

I recall reading somewhere the engine can still run for up to a minute or two just off the residual fuel pressure in the system if the fuel pump is cut off (meaning a thief might get a block or two away before it dies) which is something I wouldn't want...
Can anyone confirm if this is actually true?

(I would think it should only be a few seconds, but after reading that I'm not so sure)

    I would guess not.

The lack of fuel pressure in the rails would not provide enough fuel to push through the injectors. This might have been true when you had a carburetor bowl with some fuel in it, but that's not the case anymore.

I would do the starter version myself. IMO

Simple Starter disable, or can be used to cut ignition power, or fuel pump.
