Fuse on battery

What is the in-line fuse for that's wired to my battery?

 

Follow the wire,its not factory.

 

That does not look good to me. I would rewire that, whatever it is.

 

A wiring hack by the previous owner.

 

At least they used a fuse, 90% of the time when I see wires hooked directly to the battery there is no fuse.

 

Hack job by the previous owner as he didn't use a weather resistant fuse holder. .

 

So true. Its usually the wire jammed into the terminal as well.

 

Guys, I bought this truck brand new and this thing's been there the whole time. No one else has one of these?

 

You need to follow the wire to the other end of the wire to find out. That circuit doesn’t come from factory, hence, no truck will have similar aftermarket add on as you do.

 

It doesn’t come from the manufacturer like that. Did you have a shop or the dealership install any accessories?

Either way, like others said, follow it. You’ll know what it goes to then.

 

Unless you have something non stock like raptor lights, maybe power running boards, or something else the dealer charged you too much for, it could be the dealer’s GPS tracker, although there are easier ways to do that these days that aren’t that obvious, ask how I know…...

 

Yeah, I was thinking one of those GPS tracker gizmo's too. OP, if you financed the vehicle, some dealers but in a "big brother" tracker to make it easier to repo the truck if you quit making payments.

 

They are putting those on all the cars now, even used ones. My 19 didn’t have it but my 22 did that I bought CPO and I wrote them a check in full for it.

I found it after I saw the OBD sitting in an oddly lower and crooked position than I remember my 19’s was. It basically plugged into the obd and had its own plug to act as a pass through so it didn’t effect the function, just tapped power from it in an inconspicuous way to the common eye.

When I ripped it out I went to the dealer, walked in to the finance manager’s office I handed the check to and put it on his desk and walked out. He went from a smile wanting to shake my hand when I walked in to his eyes being the size of baseballs. No idea why he was surprised, he knew damn well it was there along with every other on the lot.

 

Before a vehicle is sold to a customer, the dealer usually sends it to the lowest bidding stereo shop to install alarms, anti-theft trackers, remote start, etc. etc. Though typically they butcher the wiring under the dash, not at the battery.
