BTW, the tonneau cover shown above is the Lomax hard folding in matte finish. Very few covers are already available for the slightly redesigned 4th gen Tacoma bed. Shout-out to Lucas Kyle at truckalterations.com for his help and a great price. (Not sponsored, only a customer.)

Nice looking new truck! Step is a must. Looks like you already have 2 mods behind you. Enjoy!

Wonder if the bed step will work on a 3rd Gen. So we can have a step on both sides

I don't think that would work. On the 4th gen (w/ coil springs), the underside of the rear is completely different. Even the spare is skewed towards the right, not centered. And on the new 4G step, the attachment bracket arm is much shorter than the 3G.

    Installed the the tailgate step.

Youtube videos were very helpful with the installation.

Mine came with the step pre-installed to the spring loaded linkage assembly.

I actually came to appreciate that it was pre-assembled because it provided a steady base for the installation.

With a combination of a few items I found in the house like a small folding chair, a solar system door, and the box that the bed step came in, I placed the whole step assembly on top so I don't have to hold it while installing the mounting bolts.

Here's the cool thing about it ... by sheer luck the two holes on the mounting bracket lined up perfectly with the frame holes! I was really surprised and happy about that. :)

The install of the bolts still took some patience since there isn't much space in there and you can't see it. Wiping a little bit of anti-seize helped glide the bolts a little easier.

Very happy with this add on. Makes getting into the bed much easier now.

I really like my bed step, I got an OEM from the dealer. Worth every penny in my book. It used existing holes on the frame too. Easy peasy. Added anti seize on the bolts also. Anti seize is my bestest friend.

I like mine enough that I finally added one to my old 2nd gen. and call it my old man step. It's easy to function with a tap of the foot. 'Worth every dollar and easy to install.

    "Old man step"

Yes, as it applies to me ... that's what I'll call it from now on.

Extremely useful. I used the tire as a step for about two years to get in the bed. Stretching to get my foot on the top of the tire got old. I’ll never have a truck without one again.
