FWIW, the Lear Jet was originally pitched as a military jet so it is kinda cool to see a biz jet rippin through the canyon. This is a Citation.

I like them all. Somewhat reminisent of Art Bell...probably because it is "desert" oriented.

I drove home from a visit to Idaho last week and camped not far from 395, north and east of Lee Vining. Totally 2WD-able location, nobody there, quiet, great views. I’ll not provide any more detail but I will camp there again and hope it remains little used. Tioga was open, no reservation required yet and no line at the east entrance on Friday morning. Still a fair amount of snow up around Ellery Lake and to the pass, and a few patches in shady spots below Tuolumne Meadows, even down to Tenaya Lake.

FYI for the lovers of Owens Valley history...the Mine in the Sky book is currently for sale at the Eastern Sierra Visitor Center. They finally did a new printing. I almost picked up another copy.

Went up to Italy Pass last Saturday. Snapped this on the way up the Pine Creek Trail.

Only Alpine Meadow I know of up that way is the old ski resort that merged with Squaw Valley and is now Palisades Tahoe.

I think they used the term "an alpine meadow" not Alpine Meadow
Probably no shortage of them near Markleeville.

I watched the documentary on the Alpine Meadows avalanche. You tend to put stuff like that out of your mind. We'd been up there just before that.

Markleeville is a pretty nice area. I've camped out that way before and enjoyed it.

Markleeville is the county seat of the least populated county in California. A very cool little town with a good public source of mountain spring (snow melt runoff?) water if you need to top off. I’m not sure if gas is available in town now; it’s been on and off over the 40+ years I’ve visited there.

Last time I was there, they had the 24hr credit card pump at the resort past there in addition to that station. I forget the name of the resort but it’s a couple miles outside of town. The tank is above ground.
