IMG_4162.jpg Good evening everyone! I just recently upgraded from a 2003 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner 2WD standard cab and bought 2013 Toyota Tacoma 4WD standard cab, I’m trying to figure out which bumper to buy. On my previous truck I had an ARB bumper, but man was it heavy. I was thinking about getting one in this new truck but I wasn’t sure if it was worth it or not. The first photo is the new truck, the second photo is of my old truck, and the others are potential bumper options. The brush guard is about $400 give or take and the others all exceed $1300. Thanks yall for the time and recommendations, happy Saturday!

the steel bumpers look good and are the most rugged/functional for smashing into shit. I’ve heard the brush guards called “damage multipliers” but I’d think they would work fine for what they are named after. I just run the stock bumper on my ‘13. They look good and it’s paid for. Your truck looks good as is. Lift? And are those skinny’s?

I’d try to find a used one since you’re in CA

I’d go for another ARB. I put one on my ‘13 and it added 133lbs of net weight to the truck.

I have an ARB, mainly because the truck is driven through areas of thick deer densities at night a lot…otherwise I would have gone lighter, but I really like it.

    depends on your use-case

i opted for a semi-hidden bumper, which provides some limited protection, recovery points, and a place to mount my winch. I'm not out there rock crawling my rig though, and its my DD too. A full steel front bumper is a heck of a lot of weight, and it doesnt end there of course. Steel skids, sliders, rear, etc it adds up

I believe it’s the stock suspension on it. Wheels are 255/75/R17

I’ve been looking around a bit, haven't seen anything great locally. Facebook Marketplace is such a good spot though, found the shell for such a great deal on there

Did you need to upgrade the suspension or anything when you put in the ARB, or will the stock handle it just fine?

I loved the way it looked on my 1st gen, just wish they had a simpler look to the 2nd gen one without the light cutout

Totally agree, like you mine is also a DD. I don’t go rock climbing or anything but I do go on the occasional trip up to the mountains where foliage is super present, would be nice to have the front end take the brunt of all the twigs and branches

That's a good looking truck something the mid rise if that's correct? size cap on the regular cab that just looks right, I think it was CBI if they still offer that aluminum one, if steel I like ATH, BAMF, and Relentless still like their hybrid bumpers but anything from a reputable fabricator would work, and the ARB is always a good option.

It dropped it about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch on a stock suspension. After installation I ended upgrading the suspension.

Another option would be a pre runner style bumper to save weight if you’re not going to run a winch

I love the rise that it has, makes it just a bit more comfortable. Thank you for the recommendations!
