Anyone know what this box or coil is on top of the ignition in a 2nd gen tacoma.it has this 2 wire plug going to it. I'm having problems with my key not coming out of the ignition. But when I disconnect the battery or this coil the key come out. It does click when I move the shifter back and forth. I wounder if it's getting weak or heating up. I'm only having problems when it's hot after driving it. Now it's been sitting it comes out fine. Thanks20250612_183110.jpg 20250612_183127.jpg

It's called the Key Interlock Solenoid, the Shift Lock Control ECU supplies Power to it on Pin 1 (Blue/White) when the transmission is not in Park and it has constant ground on Pin 2 (White/Black).

It's purpose is to prevent the key from being turned to the Lock position when the truck is in gear so the steering wheel can't accidentally be locked with the vehicle in motion.

Ok, thanks. Do you know if it's a common problem with heating up and not working properly?

I found the problem. It was with the key interlock solenoid switch. The metal part of the switch wasn't catching the shifter when going back to park.
