    Hello all,

I should be getting my new truck the end of July.

I have seen that some Tacomas come with a full size full duty spare tire underneath, it seems that the base model TRD Offroad is not one of these.

I am looking to use the rim from the spare tire to install the same tire that I plan on putting on the rest of the truck. I will be sticking with a 265 70 R17, but it will be the Nokian Outpost NAT. What is the width and diameter of the spare tire rim that comes dressed the skinny donut that the truck I am getting calls a spare tire? I'm hoping its 17 x 7.5 or 7" at the narrowest.

    The spare is a 245/75/17 Goodyear Temporary mounted on a 17 x 7 rim. I don't know the offset.

Thank you!, Sounds good enough to mount a more durable spare on to get me out of a pickle if I find myself in one.

The only thing I'm going to say is practice dropping that tire. It's a royal pain in the ass. Plus, getting the jack underneath the rear axle is no joy in the weeds. These trucks have a long butt. I'm speaking from experience. At least my spare was on a rear tire carrier and I wasn't having to drop it as well.

I've changed my mind on the tire, I ended up picking up winter specific tires, and I will be picking up more off road friendly all terrains for the truck. Looking at going with Toyo AT3's 285/70/R17 117T because they are much lighter than most other comparable tires on the market... Want to have a little more faith when I am way back in the wilderness and out of any reception areas. Additionally, I think the 33 will smooth out the rough roads a lot better. I am looking at using a 265/70/R18 as a spare... there is less than a 1/4" difference in the diameter, and it won't hang so low in the spare tire mount as a 285. I feel that the slight change in diameter shouldn't have too much of a negative effect on the truck for non-extended usage?
