All BS with Pedal Commander. Some people claim get "Check Engine Light" in dash, or other issues. Get a "tune" for your Tacoma, way better. If willing to spend money.

80% of the time it won't hurt the PCM. The Pedal Commander may occasionally draw too much current and bring the voltage down enough to throw a code and put the engine in limp mode, but it shouldn't damage the PCM.

Important to note, that is a marketing video for the Banks iteration of the same style of product.

To answer your question directly, no it shouldn't damage the ecm.

(As you could guess from my bio, i'm biased but) I would suggest just spending that money on a tune of your choice. It can't be changed on the fly like with a pedal commander but they can also setup your throttle response to your liking.

What has you interested exactly in a pedal commander? Do you want a more sensitive throttle? Are you finding a delay in the throttle?

I put a Pedal Commander in my 2014 Tacoma and loved it. Quicker response to throttle, and allowed me to pick my degree of "boost". Bought it in '21, no problems or codes, just traded the '14 for a '19, and will probably buy another one for the "new" truck. BTW, both were/are 4 cylinders...

Im in the camp of pedal controllers are stupid aswell but I would go the banks route over a pedal commander if I were to do so. It's simply designed much better.

I've had one on my 2018 GMC Sierra and my 2015 tacoma. Love them. They work as advertised. Have had no issues and it's nice to push the gas and the car actually responds.

That's nice, from the sample size I have from people who have used them it's 50/50. Some have 0 issues some have phantom check engine lights and wierd electrical gremlins that all disappeared once it was removed. I skipped this step and went straight for a tune that solves more issues than just throttle input response. 3 years with it and couldn't imagine trying to substitute the results with a throttle spoofer

Can you explain to me what the tune is and what it does? Can any mechanic do it? What does it cost (range is fine)? I'm not too familiar with it

A tune is vehicle specific and pretty much all operating aspects can be tweaked and dialed in. From tranmission shift points to fuel mapping, timing, pedal input etc... I think mine was 550 CAD so 3$ USD.

It is generally best to contact a mechanic or tuner that specializes in it as not everyone is equipt to do it. It's generally straight forward if your just flashing a company's off the shelf map but a dealing with someone that specializes in tuning even better that specific model of vehicle they can alter it to suit your preferences on performance.

Back in 2023 I picked up a PC for my new 23
I didn’t tell my wife I had gotten it and one morning she jumped into my truck to go get a coffee
She almost ran into a tree I think it was set to 3 she wasn’t expecting it to take off so fast and in reverse
She came back into the house telling me something was wrong with the truck . She came with in 2-4 inches of hitting the tree
I pulled the PC off that day ….

Depending if you get manual or automatic transmission, I get OTT, or Overland Torgue Tune on my manual Tacoma. It increases throttle sensitivety. It cost $450, contact OTT tuner in your area, for more info.
