    I looked it up based on the post above - it's for an M1-Garand. That black piece (brown in some pics) was for the Op-Rod Handle on the Garand so it didn't rub / cut the leather.

    What is the major draw to upgrading a charging handle?

    I see some going for $60 to $200 and I have to ask, what does it do that really improves the experience?

    Well one is most add a dual side charge function. It also is a larger grip area to grab with. In my case i run suppressors and some of the ones i have are designed to mitigate gas blow back in the face. Also the look on most is better than a plane Jane.

    gas blocker is helpful. I have heard some negative comments about how easy it is to snag the charging handle on your kit and pull it out of battery. even just a little bit and it's not ready to run right.

    For me, they allow me to manipulate the charging handle easier in different physicals positions but mainly being able to function it easier with an optic like an lpvo
